Christmas jumpers.Love them or hate them?

It's that time of year again that the Christmas jumper comes out from the back of the wardrobe.

A few years ago DIL brought all the family a Christmas jumper each with instructions that they should be worn every Christmas when we all gather together for our Christmas lunch. I don't want to sound ungrateful but I hate the jumper I have . The wool is itchy, it has a round neck so I feel I am being chocked when I wear it. It's red with random Christmas theams all over it.
I am planning to turn up on Christmas Day wearing my new top I brought from Debenhams using the £5 money off voucher I had given to me towards it (as mentioned in the 'chat' thread) and hope than everyone else isn't wearing their jumpers.
Now don't get me wrong, I like some of the Christmas jumpers, they are fun and they look good on most people but not me. I just end up looking plump , hot and bothered. OH has a great excuse for not wearing his, as he has lost almost 4 stone in weight his Christmas jumper is far too big for him. He has said he is pleased that he won't have to wear his jumper as he doesn't like his also so today he is going to town to buy a ......Christmas themed shirt . To quote Victor Meldew.... "I don't believe it "

    I love them mimi

I don't actually own one, as for many years the idea of wearing any sort of jumper is out of the the question.
Too hot! I have a lighweight blue glittery jumper, and black sequinny cardigan, those are the nearest!

Mimi, could you perhaps turn up in your Christmas jumper, over your new top, then just take it off once everyone has seen it!?

Mimi - I can't imagine anything worse than feeling I had to wear a round-necked woollen jumper at any time! I would feel just like you do, and I'm allergic to wool, anyway. I go for comfort on Christmas Day, and seem to spend rather a lot of time wearing a plastic apron with old-fashioned fairground pictures on it.

I think I would 'lose' DIL's instructions along with the jumper. Well done to hubby for having the perfect excuse - let's hope she doesn't buy him another one!

Mimi I would be far too hot wearing a jumper especially when eating can you not wear a festive broach or festive necklace etc,my hubby will wear his tried and tested Bart Simpson Christmas tie bought for him yrs ago by the DGSs when they where small.I am like you and cannot wear anything tight around the neck I always need a V neck or collared top.

Like Daisy I cannot wear anything that contains wool next to my skin without constantly scratching and bringing myself out a rash. I think wearing a jumper and preparing food definitely do not go together anyway. This instruction is unrealistic isn't it?

I wear jumpers most of the time in the winter, mostly wool and some with cashmere. I wouldn't wear anything too warm on Christmas day but I have been looking for a festive top. The ones with faces on are a nono but a few discrete snowflakes would be nice.

I freeze most of the time so always wear nice warm jumpers. DD had the idea a couple of years ago that we would all wear Christmas jumpers and start a new tradition. Wasn't too keen on the idea but it's quite funny when we all turn up in our jumpers, have our photo taken in them too. It will be nice to look back on. If friends pop in they think it's hilarious and gives us all a chuckle to see their faces .

We both try to wear something red, or green or both but no jumpers, like Daisy, too hot!

I don't own a jumper, gave up wearing them years ago. Don't mind seeing other people in Christmas jumpers though.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I only have two jumpers and rarely wear one. I do have a green cardigan with sparkly beads that I wear but it usually comes off after five minutes indoors! The young WI organisers all wore Christmas patterned cotton thigh length tops (a bit like nighties) with leggings and they looked great! Definitely couldn't wear something tight around my neck. I think it would make me feel ill. Just bought this top for £2.50 to wear to Christmas lunch on Saturday.

I cant bear thick woollens of any kind,I prefer to wear light layers. I have a smart lightweight jumper for Christmas but afraid no santas/reindeer/snowmen etc in sight.
