Black Friday

Today I went Christmas shopping with OH now Leeds is a massive shopping place and very busy but it was a walk in the park,no queues so quiet you could get round easily I put this down to Black Friday which I don't really believe in it's an American thing again. Admitted I only wanted vouchers and the odd gift from Pretty Green a clothes shop owned by Liam Gallagher my son is a clone of him I think , needed something from Jo Malone and Hotel Chocolate now I know they won't be joining in tomorrow, had lunch at Pieminster it makes nothing but pies delish I had jinglemas pie with cheese, roast parsnips and stuffing in it.
Anyone waiting for tomorrow.?
Coming your way Gem on Saturday with DD and family we have booked a table at the assembly rooms an old haunt of ours Gem I am told the xmas market is open till 9pm !
Anyway only 2 things to pick up next week from click and collect and that's me finished for xmas shopping!!!

I can't understand this Black Friday thing which seems to have appeared in the last few years. I agree with Qwerty that it's an American thing we can well do without, and it isn't even December yet!!!!!!! (ducking to avoid missiles being hurled at my head!)

I think it is supposed to be people (in America) buying after thanksgiving. Cyber Monday is the British equivalent so I have read. Q that sounds like my sort of place unfortunately too far to do a day trip to. I am buying nothing tomorrow, over the weekend or on Monday ask feel it is a bit of a whitewash Nd there will be a lot of stuff which won't really be bargains but will be held up as such. If you know what I mean......

OH has just told me that Argos is opening at 6 am tomorrow. Madness, complete madness. I like a bargain as much as the next person, but to go through all that chaos just for ' things' is something I won't be doing.
Apparently there was a item on our local radio about Black Friday, a professor who has studied human behaviour says that one of the reasons why we get caught up in the whole hysterical of it is because we fear we are missing out on all the so called bargains out there. Some one is bound to claim that they have brought a huge all singing, all dancing TV for £200 , reduced from £700 and we will feel we have missed a bargain of a lifetime,
irrespective of whether we need a new TV or not !

I was going to John Lewis tomorrow, I desperately need some trousers now I have lost some weight, but just realized it will probably will be heaving.

I will be avoiding the shops for the next few days. Don't like crowds anyway and if it's going to be chaotic then it's not for me. I've done most of my Christmas shopping anyway, didn't have many to buy this year, money gift to Australia and for the DGD too.

Well I said I wasn't going to buy anything today but dil texted and said Joe had changed his mind about his Christmas present (good job I hadn't bought it) and wanted an XBox game. Bought it on Tesco Direct for £2 using my club card voucher boost thing. I did double check as it has an age limit when buying of 16 years. Dil says that is fine, he is only 10 but plays a lot of older games. So I shall have to get an extra present for the other two as his was more expensive. Getting anxious about Christmas now as I have usually done all the shopping and wrapped everything and I still have lots to do, husband's present, presents for the boys, presents for family in Wales. I just seem to be running out of time and I really hate it. I haven't even written any Christmas cards although we did get our first one yesterday.

Well I don't shop in town for "Black Friday" but have sat at home and ordered on-line, my lot want "Smiggles" stuff, a back pack and pencil case, i thought ooh that's good, went into the shop nearly had a heart attack £28 a back pack and i needed 4, then pencil cases £16. I wasn't buying because I had the GC with me, I just wanted them to choose, I don't know if it was just a kind till lady or she felt sorry for me, they were picking up pencils £1.50 but it was scented, rubbers £2.50 but they were scented too, I said to my DD who was with me, "I will just go to Wilkinson,s" she said I just didn't get it, it's all about "Smiggles", so anyway the lady told me today would have 30% off and it did, saved myself a small fortune,

I always check Hotukdeals website for bargains, and today there was a "gliche" a buy one get one half price make up brush set, they had been reduced from £24. to £10.99, but when you added them to trolley you only paid for one, so got 2 sets for £10.99, not complaining that is what DD asked for for one of her Christmas presents...did pick up Christmas cards from Marks Spencers 50% off but that will probably be on until christmas now....

I find the whole 'bargain offer' scene confusing. I can never remember where I've seen the 'bargains' or what the original price was. I am also aware of how shops can manipulate these so-called offers, by say offering them an a high price in one of their stores and then 'discounting' them in another branch to make the item look cheap. I'm very cynical, but if any Granny does get a real bargain - well done, and please can you show me how!

I think this Black Friday business is a bit sick really ..... last year on the tv there were people actually getting crushed in the rush, and punching each other. I stay away from shopping in crowds, just hate it. I certainly wouldn't have been up and out and queuing outside any shop no matter how much the items had been reduced. Sorry, not interested!!!

Bl......dy Black Friday, I called into our local M&S food hall from a few bits, unfortunately it is the same car park used for other shops. For a start, why were there so many people in M&S they had all there usual offers. When I eventually got to my car, the car park was gridlocked, it took me about 20mins to get out of my parking place let alone in the queue to get out onto the main road. Why are people so fooled by the fact they might get a bargain, the shops put the prices up before Black Friday. Must remember not to go shopping next year on Black Friday.

I am going into our little high street today as I need to buy a baby present for my friend and colleague (in Time to shine) who had a baby boy last Sunday. I didn't have time to get anything sorted during the week. There is a little jewellers in the high street and there is bound to be something in there. Might be able to see a couple of other gifts.

I cannot stand Christmas crowds they turn me into a very grumpy grandma.

I didn't go near any shops on Black Friday or do any on line shopping I will wait until next week when I have an extra day off work,but what I did do was to set up my own Black Friday Sale in my little Charity Shop where I work and very well I did too,we have a facility where all out of season stock (ie summer/school uniform etc) can be collected and we are given cash by the "clothes man" which boosts our losses so I put everything stored for collection out on shop floor in big containers and charged 20p per item and over the day cleared such a massive amount and made nearly £180s which is about 10 times more than the "clothes man" would have paid me so it was a good day for me in that respect.
