Elisi - your Boxing Day sounds brilliant. I'd forgotten that we used to do Open House on Boxing Day! I must have been mad! People would be in and out all day long and I did an easy cold buffet - sandwiches, pies, quiches, salad, cold meats etc, and in the evening a huge vat of chilli con carne or something, and a huge cheese board.

Then we used to host a huge sit down dinner for New Year's Eve - I didn't do the cooking for this, but we had the space to sit about 25-30 people!

Now it seems a mountain to climb doing turkey etc for about 6 or 7 of us. I really am getting old!

I totally agree, Daisy! I like the traditional Christmas dinner, but no one should have to eat or serve that just because it is the tradition! Nothing is wrong with a simple meal by the fire, or whatever makes you happy on that day

      Boxing Day sounds lovely Elisi!

Boxing Day is the only time over Xmas that I see DDs and GC, so its like Christmas Day, more so for me. DD2 hosts, we all help, but get off lightly really.
On Christmas Eve this year my ex husband and his wife are hosting an open house from mid afternoon onwards, so we shall be there. They have just moved, have lots more room in this house and are keen to host

My husband and I used to love Boxing Day on our own after hosting Christmas Day, we used to light the fire and eat a cold lunch and the must have bubble and squeak. My DD feels the same, can't face another day of overeating and drinking. We are going to DS and DIL this year for a curry day. My DS starts cooking them days before, gorgeous.

We're having both sons and dils for Boxing Day - so it will be like Christmas Day again..... not sure what to cook. The kids said they fancied a Goose but on speaking with the butcher today he said you have to allow double the amount for a portion of Goose as opposed to Turkey and it is £12.68 a Kilo as opposed to £10.98. Maybe it will be something completely different, but I want it to feel 'special' any ideas?

We are having ours only for breakfast on Boxing Day so that will be relatively easy, some bought in bits and bacon, egg, bangers etc. A bit of fizz for Buck's Fizz if anyone wants it and then they will all depart about 11 leaving us to sit and have a little sleep!

How about a salmon en-croute (sp), M&S have it on the entertaining list. After overeating on Christmas Day it makes a nice change but special

Salmon en croute sounds a lovely, and easy, idea Plant.

Zizi, I used to love my Bucks Fizz on Christmas morning. I really miss it now I have to go for my mum before lunch!!
