    Christmas puds

    Do you like Christmas puds ?If so do you make your own , Brian is busy making the mixture for ours and the smell is wonderful . We store ours in the wardrobe in the spare room and come Christmas everyone gets one if they want one or not My DS hates them and Christmas cake he says they are the food of the Devil , we never eat them on Christmas day a bit too heavy after Christmas dinner but any other time and we tuck in love them with custard Brandy sauce or cream

    I like Christmas pud but only a very little bit. None of mine like it so I buy a mini one from the bakers and never make them myself these days. I do make mince pies and lots of relish for my lot, oh and Christmas cakes are usually sponge type so the children can eat them rather than heavy fruit cake althghni am going to try to avoid making cakes this Christmas.

    When it is "Family Christmas" when they all come around here I will do a buy in from Sainsbury. I used to always make evything from scratch but I didn't last year and it was quite liberating!

      Zizi we have always made Christmas cakes but I think people get tired of all the heavy food over Christmas so we stopped making them then when we said we won't bother this year everyone was disappointed but we sticking to our guns just the puds this year , We love mince pies too ☺

        Same as Zizi, I'm the only one to like Xmas pud and Xmas cake so I just buy myself a mini luxury one of each....

          Oma when the boys got to about 23 and 24 I said we were going to stop doing Christmas stockings for them. Oh my goodness you should have heard the kerfuffle especially from the eldest. "You can't not do Christmas stockings. We ALWAYS have Christmas stockings" I gently pointed out that this was something that they had only had since they were 9 and 10 and middle boy had always had one. His response was that it didn't matter. It was a family tradition and he would be very upset not to have a stocking. Needless to say Christmas Stockings remained but I stopped them when the first grandchild was born (Joe) saying that now we had little people to concentrate on. I think they would all still be disappointed if they didn't have a range of gifts to open on family day.

            Christmas pudding is one of my least favourites but hubby likes it.I always buy one, so he does get some.
            I make my own fruit cakes,but I don't ice/decorate them. I make them in loaf tins and we like a slice with cheese on.
            Always make my own mince pies, and I make my own rich coconut tarts.
            Posted the recipe for coconut tarts on the recipe thread, if anyone would like to try them.

            Sometimes I forget to like posts,but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

              I love Christmas pudding and cake and mince pies, so does OH!
              I make Christmas cakes - one for us and small one for mum now she's not up to baking. I make mince pies too, but have never made Christmas puddings. My then MIL made them for us until a couple of years before she died. I just buy one now, and it's nice. I think just as nice as my MIL made It must smell lovely in your house Oma. I love Christmas pud!

                    Both OH and I like Christmas puddings, Christmas cakes and mincepies. We have Christmas puds right through the year - I like Matthew Walker ones best - but I've never made my own. I used to make Christmas cakes, including marzipan and royal icing, but now I buy an undecorated one and roll out marzipan and icing. We never cut it at Christmas though - it's often into the New Year before we start on it. I do make mincepies and despair of bought mincemeat these last few years. I don't want to start making my own mincemeat, but the shop stuff is awful! I like to make them in batches and freeze them. It wouldn't be Christmas without mincepies.

                      My family love my mince pies but we start eating them before Christmas but never on the day. I make mincemeat it is so easy, I use a Delia recipe, after putting all the ingredients in a bowl you then put it in the oven so all the suet melts, it is delicious. If anyone would like the recipe I will put it on here.

                        Plant, although I always make my own mince pies, I have never made mincemeat. I buy it, apart from a couple of years when a friend kindly gave me some she made. Please put your recipe on for us

                          I make mince pies,but my lot usually scoff them before Christmas so I end up making more. I haven't made Christmas cake for years,but now I have more time on my hands I may well have a go.Hubs dislikes Christmas pud and I love it.So he buys me a tiny luxury one from Waitrose.
