    Christmas cake

Do you make a Christmas cake?
If you do when do you make it?

We both love Christmas cake so I make one. We like marzipan and icing on ours. When I used to make one for my mum she preferred hers plain.

I bought dried fruit, cherries and ground almonds the other day.
I usually get it made sometime in November , adding the marzipan and icing a few days before Christmas.

It will be November very soon won't it? I better get on with it soon

I love Christmas cake, Im like your mum Gem I like mine plain but I will eat it with icing if I have too 😁

My DS used to call it the Devils food he hated it.

When my FIL was alive I always made a square one and halved it with him as there was only the two of us who ate it.
Now I just buy a small slab from M&S ,
Although I bought a lovely luxury Genoa cake from Tesco a few weeks ago , very nice it is too .
Im not fat just 6ft too small

My OH used to make ours, I only put marzipan on it as he didn’t like it iced.

I made Christmas cakes for years - since I was about 14. I'd make them for various family members as well as us. I even used to make my own almond paste and royal icing, but stopped doing that when ready-made marzipan and icing became available.

When I was teaching I used to make them during the Autumn half-term, knowing I wouldn't get time later. So they were nicely matured by Christmas. Then I had a few years when I just didn't see the point. Nobody liked them except OH and me, and he didn't like the marzipan. I've bought ready-made undecorated ones from Sainsburys but they're not the same as home-made. So I think I might make one this year.

I do like a home made Christmas cake, but as it's only me that eats it, I haven't bothered for several years now! I do enjoy the marzipan and icing though! Trouble is I'll eat them without them being on a cake......fondant icing, not royal icing!

WeeGranny, both my DS2 and I love marzipan, but he doesn't like the cake, so I usually make him some marzipan sweets instead.

I would happily eat Christmas cake right through the year.

My GD1’s OH likes to make Christmas cake so I leave it to him now.
