People who don't "do" Christmas

Clover mentioned in Chat that one of her son's partners doesn't 'do' Christmas, and neither does her mother. It set me wondering - why, what do they do about things like presents and cards, do they literally put no decorations up, or have a special meal?

Obviously some people don't observe Christmas from a religious point of view, but other than that, I would love to know more about non-Christmas people.

I am not exactly "no-Christmas", just don't go over the top about it. I will have lights up nearer the time, if I am alone I do cook a "special" meal.

My MIL isnt a fan of Christmas but does like Christmas dinner , as long as someone else cooks it

I don't think I know anyone who doesn't do Christmas.
As a family, from my 92 year old mum down, we all love Christmas and decorating for it.
The thing we love most is being together as a family. This of course will all be very different this year. We are all still throwing ourselves into it, and even earlier to beat the gloom!

Amongst my friends they is a great variety as to how much they enjoy and celebrate the season. My friend M is probably the least Christmas type person in my circle, but she does celebrate not ignore it!

I don't really know anyone either Gem , as I say MIL not keen but I think that's just because she likes to be awkward and make a scene ,
She has always enjoyed the day at various houses.

We love all celebrations its something to look forward too and get together with the family

We have always done Christmas, I can't say we are great with the decs but the Christmas table always looks festive.

I'm a bit like Lizzie,i don't go over the top with it.
We buy presents and send cards, and have Christmas dinner.
If i was on my own,i wouldn't make a special dinner.

I don't know anyone who does'nt do Christmas, this year I will downsize on the outside decorations and only put lights on the conifer out side my front door,on previous years we have put lights across the outside windows and down the driveway but not this year.
Also I have cut back on decorations indoors but just placed some favourite pieces around the lounge to make it look festive.
Poppy has her Christmas coat all ready to wear when she comes back from the beauty parlour on Tuesday and Oliver has a blingy collar to wear with a festive red dickie bow.

I’ve never got to the bottom of why DS’s partner doesn’t do Christmas. I don’t think DS knows either! They do decorate their flat a bit but that is for DS ‘s benefit. I don’t buy D a present but include her in DS’s card. She and her Mum make more of New Year.

Clover - are they Scottish? Just a thought, although I think all the lovely Scots I know do both Christmas and New Year.
