    Favourite Christmas films and books

Taking inspiration from It's A Wonderful Life being mentioned on Chat, I wondered what everyone's favourite Christmas themed films and books are?

I like watching Christmas films (although I have resisted watching any so far this year) and I enjoy reading Christmas themed books at this time year and usually add 3 of 4 to my Kindle to read between other books.
I am reading one called Grace atm. I think its going to be a bit predictable and I'm finding it hard to accept a 44 year old granny whose children worry about her being alone at Christmas, but it is very enjoyable nevertheless. I think I have 2 or 3 more Christmas books to read between now and Christmas

      White christmas

And every year about this time I read Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher.

I also have a few Christmassy books on my kindle, just light hearted reading.

I'm a real misery.......have neither favourite films nor books. Though I have watched Home Alone with GS!

However today I bought a BOGOF offer of Fern Britton's books : A Cornish Gift and The Postcard. They both look quite an easy read and are something to do with the festive season.

All the above films & then some.

I love the 1st Harry Potter film as it's really Christmasy. 'Christmas Carol' b/w & modern day one are on my favourites list too. Showing my age now as I can't remember the name of it, but have watched it every Christmas time for years..... it's a film about a little boy called Ralphie. Comical even tho I know what's coming. The book is called 'In God we Trust' although it's not religious in any shape or form.

Ooo.... I nearly forgot 'Christmas Vacation', Chevy Chase.

I've seen Its a Wonderful Life so many times,i'm a bit fed up of it now.
Also seen the old and newer version of Miracle on 34th Street.
I'm not really one for films, unless they are true stories.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I think I ought to whisper this:

I've never seen Its a Wonderful Life, Love Actually, Elf, the Grinch or The Polar Express.

I never think about sitting down to watch a film on DVD, and OH only seems to watch films with noise and violence as the main story lines.

After I tired myself out gardening yesterday, I had a shower to warm me up then sat down and watched a Will Smith film (I love him). Not very often I do that but I really enjoyed it. I will watch a film I have downloaded if there is nothing on in the evening.

After reading this thread, I got to thinking that all these films must be popular because they are very good and enjoyable.

So I thought I'd try and see them at least once as they crop up on tv. The very next day From Here to Eternity was on. I missed the first 20 minutes but watched the rest of it, so that's one ticked off a very long list.

Still not a seasonal film, but this afternoon I watched the 1946 David Lean version of Great Expectations. Not totally new as I first saw it in about 1959 at school (it was one of our O Level Eng Lit books). But I think they'd cut a couple of scenes out! Anyway, it was nice to sit and watch a film and relax for a while.

I might get used to this!
