    Twelfth night or before?

Are you a traditionalist, taking down your decorations on 12th night, or do you feel Christmas is over by late December and you want all festive signs gone?

We don't put our tree and other decorations up until Mid December generally, and always leave them until 12th night.
There is always confusion about which date 12th night actually is. Epiphany (arrival of the Kings) is the 6th but the 12th night counting from Christmas is 5th. Either seems to be accepted. For many years I thought it was the 6th, but logic tells me it is really the 5th.

    Twelfth Night 2019
January 5, 2019 in the World
Twelfth Night takes place on January 05, 2019. Twelfth Night is a festival in some branches of Christianity marking the coming of the Epiphany and concluding the Twelve Days of Christmas. It is defined by the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary as "the evening of the fifth of January, preceding Twelfth Day, the eve of the Epiphany, formerly the last day of the Christmas festivities and observed as a time of merrymaking". There is some confusion these days, however, as to which night is Twelfth Night: modern practice is often to regard the night of Epiphany itself (sixth of January) to be Twelfth Night. The older tradition of Twelfth Night being the 5 January stems from the medieval practice of the day beginning at sunset, rather than at midnight as it does now. Thus Twelfth Night falls on 5 January, ahead of Twelfth Day on the 6th. A recent belief in some English-speaking countries holds that it is unlucky to leave Christmas decorations hanging after Twelfth Night, a belief originally attached to the festival of Candlemas which celebrates the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple (2 February).

If i had my way,the decorations would come down the day after Boxing day.
Hubby likes them to stay until New Years day is over. They will come down on the 2nd.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Took ours down yesterday! Once Christmas Day and Boxing Day are over that’s it.

We don't put our Christmas decorations up until the last minute! A week before Christmas Day is early for us! But we do celebrate New Year's Eve with friends, and we always leave them until after NY. NY Day is usually a lazy one, but by the 2nd or 3rd January I'm more than ready to take them down for another year. Putting them up is so much more pleasurable than taking them down!!

We love that cosy feeling given off by the lights so leave them up for as long as we can. Not past the end of the 1st wk in January tho.

I like to take my decorations down on 6th January. Once they are all packed away I love to re read all the Christmas cards I have received.

                    Me too.

I quite often find people have put little messages in them, but if I've already written their card I don't acknowledge them, so this year I'm going to write a few letters in reply.
