    Christmas Ooops

Something always goes wrong at just the wrong time - like Avo's oven door today. But some of the mishaps are man (or woman) made!!

My worst howler was serving raw stuffing. I followed the recipe but it never said to cook it, just put it in a pyrex dish. That was the first year we were married, Fifty+ years on, I've never lived it down.

Then one year we ran out of washing up liquid! No dishwasher back then, and the shops closed on Christmas Eve and didn't open for about 3 days, over a week-end. I resorted to using bubble bath for the washing up!!

One Christmas before B cooked we ran out of bread for Breakfast the next morning so I decided to make some , something I made on a regular basis ,

This time it wasn't rising right so I thought well its only for toast if its not as big as usual it will be ok ,
Put it in oven and it looked odd and slightly flat baked it and left it to cool although it was no more than a couple inches high in the tin
Clearing everything away went into fridge and there on the shelf was the Yeast

No the wonder it didn't rise hahaha it was like a door stop hahaha

Started again late at night to get some ready for the next day
Im not fat just 6ft too small

I can't remember anything going wrong like that, but maybe I am blanking it out!

I clearly remember the Christmas when DD3, aged 3 had had the horrible vomiting bug. Luckily by Christmas Eve she was OK.
On Christmas morning I woke up feeling decidedly dodgy. DD1, aged 15, was ill too. We had both come down with the bug. I bravely sat at the Christmas table with OH and the other DDs, aged 3 and 13, with nothing but a wine glass of water. DD1 took to her bed.
Not the best day, but probably the only Christmas when I didn't gain an ounce, as even by New Year I hadn't regained my full appetite!

Why don't I keep my big mouth shut!

I decided to parboil the potatoes early, intending to leave them to dry and then they wouldn't take so long to roast (I've only got one very small oven). I was watching them really carefully, but took my eyes off them for less than two minutes to check the turkey - and they all went into water - a big pan of mush! There were just enough potatoes left to start again, so OH peeled them while I got on with other things. I decided to cook the stuffings and pigs in blankets then roast the potatoes and parsnips. But the oven seemed on a go slow - even when I turned the gas up to 9 (the top setting) nothing was cooking! We sat down for dinner over 2 hours late!!!

Oh dear. My biggest cooking failure was when I made dumplings for the first time. I forgot to put the flour in. When I took the lid off the stew pot there was about 3" of fat.🤣🤢

                  Oh dear Daisy.
                  Ewwww, Nana!!

My SILmakes wonderful roasties, which we will sample today. I'm afraid we make Aunt Bessies or similar!!
I actually prefer mash, which at Christmas I make with butter and single cream,so they are not a big thing for me. I do like SIL's though

Gem - My DS2 makes amazing roasties too. If it wasn't for him yesterday I'd have given up and just mashed up the mush!!!
