    Presents for Teachers

Every year I hear parents discussing what to give their children's teachers for Christmas. I know it can put a heavy financial strain on some families, especially where there are several children. I thought this was a wonderful idea, in the spirit of giving at Christmas, and I hope it catches on elsewhere. What do you think?

I think this is an excellent idea Daisy. My daughter and SIL are both teachers. Every year they are inundated with chocolates and wine, also my daughter gets plenty of smellies and candles. Whilst they are both very appreciative of the gifts, they are also aware of the difficulties this must put on some families. I shall certainly suggest the idea of giving to a food bank or homeless shelter as an alternative way of spreading Christmas cheer.

I think the idea of teachers presents has got out of hand. At our local first school parent representatives collect a stipulated amount from the parents in their children's class for one present, such as a voucher and the children don't have any choice. Classes now have more than one teacher so where is it going to end. I think this is an excellent idea.

When my lot were in Primary School the local Pharmacist told me the Teachers come to him as school closed , to exchange what they had been given , for something they wanted , some even asked for cash ! Put me in a quandary , the Teachers got home bakes that year from my lot . The following year the parents put money to buy one gift , of course that escalated , but we had no one at primary by then . That Teacher has the right idea

This is an excellent idea Daisy, Well done that teacher,

Both my GC have more than one class teacher, younger and classes have classroom assistants. It must get expensive for parents , especially those with two or more children at school.
