Christmas cards

I am watching Jeremy Vine on channel 5 while drinking my coffee and waiting for Mr Tesco.
There was a discussion on Christmas cards. Cards with family photos on initially, but it went onto Christmas cards in general.

Many seem to think them unimportant and a waste of money. One woman admitted to opening her cards over the bin!!! (I hope her friends and family are watching and don't bother to send her any this year!)

Each to their own, but I love Christmas cards. Any cards really, I would prefer a card to a present if I had to choose.

They cited cost as an issue. I agree that stamps are very expensive and I hand out as many as I can. Cards can be bought cheaply in packs, everywhere has 3 for 2 offers on them, and if you shop in January you can get them half price!

No one complains about the amount of money spent on booze at Christmas, I think Christmas card moaning is mean!!

We still like to send and receive Christmas cards.

Oh I agree with you Gemini, cards are very special to me, birthday and Christmas. I still have my cards from last year, I re-read them and make my list from them. I am very careful to buy cards with words that don't upset the recipient, the word Happy would be very hurtful for someone who has just lost a loved one for instance. I have a couple of friends who send me embroidered cards and I don't throw those away, I hang them on ribbons and fix them to my glass pane doors.

I hand out as many as I can but there is always about 15/20 I have to Post , I have cut out the people who never send us one or I haven't seen in years but still send and hand out lots ,
I always buy mine in the January sales so they cost pennies.
My Niece this year has made felt tree baubles and attached a brown cardboard label to them as Christmas cards this year , so clever it means they are a keep sake , mine is Steve the Sprout he has a Red & White wool hat on

I love to send and receive cards, too, and I try to make sure the recipient get a card they will like, and I always try to get cards that actually mention "Christmas". I know we're a largely secular country, but I also want to remember the origins of Christmas. This is partly why I'm so grumpy about Christmas displays in shops in August. The more we spread it out the less special it becomes. It's just my opinion of course, and I know a lot of people get a lot of pleasure out of planning and gradually shopping for gifts, decorations, etc.

I buy my cards in several different charity shops, and although they probably work out a bit dearer I feel they are doing a tiny bit of good as well as helping me keep in touch with friends.

I hand out hardly any cards - so many friends live too far away. Mind you it would be a nice road trip to hand deliver all the cards but it might take a couple of weeks.

I’m with you Gem I prefer a card than a present, i buy mine from charity organisations if I can, deliver most by hand maybe half a dozen by post but each year my list gets smaller for different reasons , and like Plant I keep my cards as my memory isn’t as good as it used to be

I must remember to write out some cards out to take with us when we have a meal with the ‘outlaws’ ( OH’s sisters and brother in laws and niece ) on Friday. It’s our usual get together and Christmas card exchange. It saves a fortune in stamps I can tell you.

I'm a little confused about my Christmas cards this yr. I was certain I bought some in the January sales, but can I find them? I'll have to get up into the loft & search round there. We also store Christmas stuff in the garage so that will be the place to look after the loft.

I always buy holy ones from the Charity shops or sometimes Smith's. Cards are important to me too. Love Steve the sprout.😂

I love sending and receiving Christmas cards. For some people this may be the only contact from one year to the next.
I have two very special Christmas cards that take pride of place on the mantle piece every year. The first is the last card I got from my eldest son before he died when he was just seven years old. The second is the last card I got from my hubby before he died in 2016.
Every year I save my cards from my ‘precious’ people, because I never know if they will still be here next year.
I hope this doesn’t sound morbid. It’s not meant too. I just value some special personal items.
