I admired my friends nails, always beautifully shaped, polished to,perfection. She told me they are gel nails so not the real thing. Mine used to be ok but just lately have been flaking and splitting but didn't fancy the gel option as I have heard the process can damage your nails. I have been using Rimmel stronger nails for the last 10 days or so and can see an improvement so hopefully they will recover."Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." - Dr Seuss

My daughter-in-Law does my gels in her salon. I don't like the modern shaping (squarish) so I have mine more natural shaped. There are some lovely colours
to choose from. I only have them done when i'm going somewhere like on holiday, or out somewhere special. If i'm going on holiday I have matching polish on my toes too.Grandmothers are just antique little girls - author unknown

Daisy I think most people nowadays have false nails, except me of course, that's why everybody else seem to have perfect nails. Mine are poor due to extreme nail biting as a child, so I would benefit from acrylic ones, but so far I haven't bother, same as for a pedicure that I keep promising myself and hair colour done at the salon. It's a lifetime habit of being thrifty, at one time because of necessity, but perhaps now I will start to indulge myself and spend some of the grandchildren's inheritance!A day without wine is like a day without sunshine....

Plant's right, of course. I treat my nails very badly, and they are much better in the summer than they are now. I suppose that's down to Vit D or something. The trouble is when I'm going somewhere special I don't think about them until I'm almost ready to go and then it's too late to do much more than give them a quick buff up. I do paint my toenails all summer, but that is often just adding another coat to cover up the chipped bits. I've never been brave enough to go to a nail bar."Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

I went to a nail bar once, and never again, it caused so much damage to my nails, this was 9 years ago. They grow quite easily and strongly, but I don't bother much with them to be honest. I find it's just one part of my body I'm not interested in looking after much! However, in summer, my toenails always have polish on them I think it looks great when wearing sandals.Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. T.S Eliot

I keep mine just gently shaped and not too long if they grow any length they do tend to break even though I also use Sally H on a regular basis to strengthen them,I use just a pale pink varnish & sometimes when I have the time to sit I will get DD to do a French Manicure which I do love, I have never bothered with false nails as I am too much of a bull in a china shop sometimes and then there is the fact that I do a lot of cooking for my business so not practical at all.Keep Calm,You're Fabulous

For my job I have to have quite short nails. I am not ladylike enough maintain immaculate nails anyway! I very, very rarely wear nail polish on my fingers nails. The last time was a wedding in August.
I love my toenails painted though and am a big fan of Minx Nails for my toes, those transfers, which last for weeks“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown

Mine are dreadful at the moment with ridges and splitting. I checked if they were caused by some deficiency, but it seems it's just another ageing process. Bought some 'Hard as Nails' so we'll see if that helps.
Get gel nails done when I'm going on holiday or somewhere special. I do enjoy a mani/pedicure though.Believe you can and you're halfway there.

I try to always have a nice set of nails and never ever have gels. I bit my nails until I was about 23 and just decided one day I wanted nice nails so stopped biting them. Don't really know how I did it but I did. Even in the fifteen years we had the shop (florists so hands in and out of water) I had long nails. I hate it when, as happens every now and then, they all break at the same time. Showing some pictures although they are not great and my hands look very wrinkly..... These are about the longest they get these days. I do admit I spend a bit of money and time on my nails although rarely have a "proper"manicure these days. You do not have permission to view this gallery.

They're lovely Zizi. I just wish mine wouldn't split and flake so much. I try to wear rubber gloves but forget, although I use lots of hand cream. I'm hoping this product I'm using will help, so far after a week they are looking a tiny bit better."Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." - Dr Seuss

Enfys try Rimmel Nail Nurse. It is not expensive. It is clear and you put in on your nails one day, then top it up the next. Seven days later remove it and do the same again. I use it when I have been very busy and am tired as that is when my nails start flaking, after the second application I use base coat, nail polish and top coat.If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together
