    The Dressing Gown Dilemma

Why can I never find the perfect dressing gown.

I was sorting out clothes yesterday and I have got 7!! They are all wrap round ones in various lengths and thicknesses, and none of them are exactly what I want. They always seem to come with baggy sleeves which get wet as soon as you step into the kitchen or bathroom, they don't wrap round far enough and as soon as you sit down gape very inelegantly, the long ones trip me up on the stairs, the short ones leave me with cold, blue legs in the winter. Grrrr..... - and that's not even considering that they all make me look like a sack of potatoes tied in the middle. I admit this isn't the dressing gowns' fault, but I'm feeling grumpy!

My OH, who had one dressing gown for many, many years until I bought her a replacement last Christmas has been dismayed by how many dressing gowns I own!
Towelling, velour, a ribbed material, shorter ones for summer both cotton and a silky material.....
I have in fact got rid of some to the charity shop over the last couple of years.
I bought a wonderful dressing gown a few months ago which I love. White with French blue flowers on, in that lovely soft fleece material. Its, warm soft and cosy, and light enough to take with me when I go away, should I want to.
It's perfect, so all I need in addition is a cooler lightweight one to take on holiday in summer.
I still have 2 more however

I had a favourite blue one M&S, it must have been 20 years old but alas I decided it was time for it to be disposed of. I have a very thick towelling one with a hood which I use when I have been swimming. Recently I bought a towelling one from JL very bulky but not very flattering but warm, I use that after I have showered and I also have a lightweight one which I like and take that one on holiday.

I am fond of my collection of dressing gowns,I have 3/4 waffle type material knee length ones in cotton which I use when on holiday and a couple of cuddly hooded ones that I have had for years, one special one is full length with a hood in red with doggy paw prints all over the family call me Creuella Duvile when ever I wear it,I find now though that the towelling ones are too hot when worn and do prefer cotton ones,Daisy have you tried finding one that zips or buttons up the front rather than tying at the waist or you could go down the route of an all in one

I have 1 yes 1 dressing gown I bought a few weeks ago , I only wear it for modesty if I'm in my PJ,s and someone knocks on the door or calls that I didn't expect ,
I hate dressing gowns , I'm too hot all the time to use them and I have the same problem as Daisy I never find one that doesn't look like a potato sack tied in the middle ,
Years ago I had a fab Black oriental silky one that was perfect it actually wrapped right around no gaping bits and looked very elegant , I loved it but it finally dropped to bits and I have never found another like it.
I did consider a button up one it was supposed to be 3/4 but actually on me came to just above my ankles, it had nice cuff sleeves not wide ones but was expensive and I know I wouldn't wear it much , Saying that it most likely have lasted years so maybe I should have bought it , I may have to rethink that one and get it .

I have two dressing gowns , one in a pink and white striped I brought from M and S many , many years ago and it never seems to wear out . Its full length ( On me that means several inches of the dam thing dragging on the floor ) and its rather thick so its kept for cold nights. The other is a knee length ( on me, resting on my calves ) pale blue, its much thinner material so suitable for warmer nights.

I have never been a fan of dressing gowns.I know i'll sound weird, but i find them very uncomfortable.
Hubby did buy me one that i asked for a couple of months ago for my birthday.
It's a towelling one,in cerise, but i only use it for when i get out of the shower.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I have a fluffy cosy jobbie and a thin one also. For years I made my own kimono style dressing gowns. So easy. I can't work up the enthusiasm to make another just now though.

Glamm, I've thought about button up ones but always thought they'd be too much of a faff in the mornings when I'm still half asleep (I'm not a morning person!), but I'm coming round to the idea of trying one. Nothing can be worse than the tied-sack feeling of my current collection! I don't think I'd get a zipped one - apart from the fact that my back is far too painful to bend down to do it up, I would be really impatient with it and probably get it jammed half way up! LOL

GM - One of mine is a cotton kimono which was a present from someone visiting Japan. It's lovely and comfortable but has no pockets and the sleeves get in the way of everything!

Plant's trip to Brighton reminded me that I bought a very glamorous floaty peignoir (far too posh to be a dressing gown) which I bought in Hanningtons of Brighton, long before we lived in that area. My OH hated it and in the end I reluctantly sent it to a charity shop.

Two quotes for carpet yesterday, JL and a local, much recommended local man, I was very impressed with him. Querty I have a carpet the colour of pale red wine atm but I am having one called sand dune this time.

Need to finish packing, we are not leaving early, probably about 11ish. Weather forecast not too bad.

I wonder if the shop Hanningtons is still in Brighton Daisy.

Plant - sadly Hannington's closed in about 2000. There's a new development on that site now - not sure what - but the name has been preserved I think. I'd be interested to see what's there now - it was such a delightful old-fashioned department store! Safe journey and have a lovely time.

As a teenager I loved all those old films with proper movie stars in. They always looked glamours in their wraps. My Mam had me a swishy floaty one made. I felt like a star in it.
Now I'm like a sack of spuds in my dark green fleecy one, that I've had for years.
Did any of you have those nightdress and negligee sets, i had two!
                            Was I a spoit child?

Ooh no, I didn't but would have loved one! My mum isn't particularly feminine and wanted boys, so I never had very girly stuff, but would have been over the moon with something like that
