i was 16 it seems quite old now as I have watched my step granddaughter wear it since she became a teenager. I went for my first interview with no make up,and short white socks I was very immature when I think about it but I did get the job, when I look back now my first make up was mascara that you spit on sorry to get the brush wet and me being a BB it sounds horrific now, Ive never plucked my eyebrows you can't see them they are so blonde, and never worn red lipstick always very pale make up think it was called Sheer Genius I haven't changed in all those years I never wear make up at home and very little when I go out my mum was the same what about you

Having 2 older sisters I started wearing makeup at about 14 , but only at home a bit mascara ( Yes the spit on kind in the little box with a brush ) and a little lipstick .
by the time I was 16 I wore makeup all the time ,
I never go out without my full makeup on although its a very natural kind nothing heavy ,( Magic minerals) ,lipstick is not over the top but I feel naked without it and even days I'm staying in I still put mascara on but not face makeup ,
My mother never wore makeup and my two sisters stopped wearing makeup in their 20.s no idea why .Im not fat just 6ft too small

I wore powder and a revolting Rimmel lipstick that was a vile pink. This was recommended by Mother when I was 14 but didn't last long. I was into all kinds of everything soon after. By 17 I was wearing false eyelashes and trying to look like Twiggy. Now I do my best but the wrinkles win. Nothing seems to last all day. I suppose I am aware that it is so easy to look like mutton dressed as lamb.🙄.
As soon as my girls showed an interest I let them wear any make up they liked. I thought it best to let them get the worst over early and it paid off.Last edited by Grauntie Mag; 13-05-2017, 05:57 AM.Women are like tea bags; you never know how strong they are until they are put in hot water.

Do you know, I can't really remember Qwerty!
Some time in my teens, but it hasn't really stuck in my mind when. I always wore eye make up not lipstick or foundation. I still don't wear lipstick but do wear tinted moisturiser in winter to give my face some colour, and I wear translucent powder.
I have worn moisturiser on my face every day since I was 18 and I do have a fairly good skin with minimal wrinkles, so it may have worked“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown

I think I was about 16,Max Factor pancakand panstick were very popular but were quite a heavy foundation. I wore Helena Rubinstine lipstick because my aunts worked there. If I am not going out I just use a moisturizer but normally I wear a foundation, sometimes eye shadow and mascara and a little blusher. Also some lipstick but I seem to lick that off very soon, I dread to think how many lipsticks I have eaten. What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare

I think i was about 13/14. We used to buy Miners(anyone remember it) from Woolworths. I always bought their lipstick in a colour called The Palest.
If i'm just going out shopping, i wear mascara and a bit of blusher.
For a night out, i do wear more, but nothing too heavy.Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I must have been about 13/14 and at first used Panstick and a very pale lipstick which was the fashion then with loads of black eyemake-up (think Dusty Springfield) mum used to go mad as I never managed to get it all off before going to bed.
Now I used a daily BB creme and mascara/ lipgloss every day I never go out without it,I wash my face with Simple Face Wash and pile on Simple Moisturising Creme every morning and this works well for me I have no sign of wrinkles at the moment so something must be working,I must say my mum had beautiful skin all her life as did her sister so maybe I have inherited her skin type.Keep Calm,You're Fabulous

I can remember the first time I wore make-up very clearly. I was 15 and we were going to a wedding. My mother was totally against make-up and I'd been pestering for ages to be allowed to wear it, and I was allowed lipstick to wear at the wedding. I remember my mother taking me into a big chemists in Hanley and chose an Elizabeth Arden lippy in a light-ish rose pink. It was that or nothing! I felt soooooo grown-up though.
My skin has always been very dry and I bought moisturiser - I think it was Max Factor - which I used every day. I still moisturise morning and night, but the wrinkles are gradually winning.
I did eventually sneak eyeshadow into the house to put on round at my friend's, but I didn't like the feel of mascara on my eyelashes, and I'm still nor too keen. I was lucky my eyelashes were very dark. I hardly every wear foundation - just bronzing pearls - and I don't wear make-up round the house. My favourite thing is kohl pencil or eye liner.
Did anyone else meet up with friends on a Saturday and spend hours trying out all the samples at Boots and Woollies?

Daisy,my friend Irene and I used to go over to Liverpool on the Ferry and go to the big department stores and stand and watch the Sales Reps doing the make-up for the ladies and always came away with samples they where so nice those Reps we used to get free samples of perfume also and my mum used to "borrow" some of the sachets we came home with,we had lots of sleep overs with our other 2 friends we must have resembled clowns with some of the colours we had on our faces such good days where had by all.my DGD has sleep overs and does similar now with her school pals but they are far more professional than we ever where.Keep Calm,You're Fabulous

This has bought back some memories. I must have been around 15 when I started wearing lipstick, Miners or Rimmel. My friend worked in Woolies on the make up counter and I used to go in there and try out all the samples. I remember buying a green eye shadow and plucked up courage to ask Mum if I could use it! Imagine asking permission now. By the time I'd left school and was working I favoured thick eye liner with flick ups, heavy mascara and pale pale lips. So cool, man .
Nowadays it's a light foundation, a little neutral eyeshadow and lipstick. I can forego everything but the lippie, I feel washed out without it.Last edited by Enfys; 13-05-2017, 03:47 PM."Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." - Dr Seuss

Glamm - I can imagine how exciting those trips to Liverpool must have been. I used to go to Manchester for the really big department stores.
Mimi - pink and orange was very psychedelic! You were in the leading edge of fashion in the 60s with those colours. I remember having a jump suit - pink, orange and yellow swirly pattern - and sparkly as well!
Enfys - I loved the Max Factor eyeliner you could peel off at the end of the day - it was brilliant and you could get great flickups with it!!!
