I am going to a black tie charity ball on Sat and have been in a dilemma about what to wear. I don't have any ball gowns and I am sure most of my friends I am going with do not either. Some of the ladies have been on cruises and will have some to choose from. My friend has loaned me a long black dress but it has short sleeves so I have spent ages looking for something to wear over it. So far I have tried tops from House of Fraser and John Lewis to no avail, had advice from my youngest GD who found something in my wardrobe, DD didn't agree with. I have now decided to save my money and wear an animal print beaded and sequined cashmere cardigan over the dress, so that's me sorted.

Plant - I'm sure you will look lovely, and if you get too hot boogying the night away you can take your cashmere cardigan off, but it sounds very glamorous and ideal for the occasion.
I've got a couple of long evening dresses - one black lace and one magenta. We're going to an annual 'do' in mid-October, and I think this year I'll wear the black lace! If I can't remember which one I wore last year, I'm sure nobody else can either!

Yes I feel more relaxed about it now. The ladies I am going with are my bowls friends and some of their friends to make up the numbers. One of my bowls friends lost his wife to Motor Neuron Disease so we are going to support the charity and hope to have some fun. Apart from the meal there is entertainment and an auction. Those of you who have met me know that there will be no dancing for me, I would have to be scraped off the floor. Carriages will be at midnight, perhaps I will meet my Prince Charming. What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare
