Why does unisex have to be boring??

I can't wait to start buying baby things for my next grandchild, especially as there are some sales just now. Debenhams has one, and Mothercare has one in a few days.
Although DD had a test at 11 weeks which would, amongst other things, have told them the sex, they opted not to know the sex until the 20 week scan when my granddaughter can be there to share the news.
Therefore, it is unisex clothes unless I wait several weeks.
Unisex, for new babies at least, seems to mean white, cream, beige or grey, and combinations of the above!!
Where are the nice colourful clothes that are not predominately pink or blue?
When my 3rd daughter was on the way I bought 3 babygrows which I loved. Blue, pink, pale green and yellow narrow stripes. She looked cute in them, they were colourful and would have been just as suitable had she been a boy.
I wish there were more pretty, mixed colour clothes like this for newborns. Just because it's not pink or blue, I don't want it to be beige!!

I used to put my baby in towelling and ribbed tights and brightly coloured little jumpers because in those days boys clothes were awful, all puffy shorts and pointy collars.

I think colours are good but if you put a girl in blue it does label it a boy to admirers like me

I know what you mean Gemini, but I love beige and cream.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I know what you mean too, when there newborns, babies look lovely in any colours and love the clean fresh white and beiges too, but they don't seem to be babies very long, my youngest GS 4 month and in jeans and shirts, doesn't look a baby at all, mind he is a "chunk"...eeeh don't tell DS or his mam I would get wrong for saying that, alright for them too...

Plant when my DD was a baby she was rigged out in pink, her coat, shoes the lot and I used to be amazed when ppl used to ask if she was a girl or boy, maybe was her baldy head, I don't know...

My son and dil had Sadie in combat trousers at ten days old in an apparent bid to make her a tom boy. That didn't last long, as soon as she was old enough to have her own opinions out went the Tom boy stuff and in came the sparkly stuff, jewellery etc. Pearl, Sadie is also a chunk, 10 and half pounds born and Joe was ten. Joe is tall and lean but Sadie still has a lot of baby chub. She is such a pretty little thing and very cute with her blonde hair and blue eyes,

Zizi, my DD and SIL didn't choose all the pink stuff for my GD either (Grandma snuck quite a bit in however) In time she chose all that pink and glittery stuff. To their credit they didn't stop her having it. To my mind not letting little girls who want pink have it, is as bad as forcing it onto girls who prefer to be tomboys!

Sadie NEEDS to organise what I wear including my jewellery, shoes and hair. The more I look like a ballerina the better (yes ladies who know me I am aware the imagination will need a bit of help there). The one thing she doesn't do is make up, she doesn't like the feel of it but she does like my hairspray. Elnett. She calls it "Grandma smell"

I have bought the standard white babygro's for expected GGC due in March and saw some nice coloured ones in pale green stripes and lemon all had nice attractive motifs on the front they where in John Lewis,a wee bit more expensive than the norm but they are nice to keep on all day when baby is small I don't like babies dressed as little people with pants etc, much rather have a cute matinee jacket to team up with a babygro, makes life easy for mum imo.

Not looked at John Lewis yet Glamma. I got some newborn stuff for my GS from there.
I really don't like to see little babies in denim etc. It's not soft enough for new babies, and there is the rest of their lives to wear denim, but not to wear baby clothes

Boots do nice colourful newborn baby clothes, or they did a few months ago, nice and soft, what about Marks and Spencers............

I too personally don't like denim on newborns, our little ones Jeans are soft and elasticated so not the hard denim you get for "older" kids.........

I agree about babies being dressed like adults but that is what they do these days. I always buy the children a new outfit for Christmas and already have Sadie's little party dress it is cream and gold with a little faux fur bolero. I haven't looked for stuff for the boys yet. There used to be a TK Max in Staines which is a short hop away but it has been closed so will have to find somewhere else. There is a lovely shop in our local high street but my goodness they are expensive. The do all the confirmation dresses and bridesmaids etc but also ordinary clothes but all branded like Ralph Lauren etc. I know the parents frequently buy them all expensive clothes but I just don't see the point unless it is for something special of course.

There is a web site called Zuilly (I think - Oma might be able to confirm) and they do children's clothes. Not sure if they do little babies though.

                              Thanks everyone
I have decided to wait a few more weeks until we know the gender. Lots of the baby clothes marked as Unisex on some sites were predominantly either blue or pink!
