    Rainwear

All this chat about rain coats etc got me thinking about when we were young ,
Can you remember see through plastic Mac/coats and plastic rain hats the old ladies wore over their perms

Then there was the Mary Quant plastic hats that went with the plastic macs for the trendy young things ,

When we were little we had good old duffle coats , nothing got through those bad boys , I remember the smell of them hanging in the cloak room on a wet day and rows of Wellies,
They were very heavy but warm you never see them now do you .

I remember I worked with a boy who had one of those Waxed long coats with a sort of cape , I call them Australian bush man’s coats , I have no idea what the real name is .
This was in the 70s he thought he was the bees knees 😁
It was a sort of mud brown coloured. Rain just ran off it .

Oma, I had a wax coat when I used to have a dog, they are still very popular here, in fact, I sold mine not long ago for a very good price!!! To a dog walker!

I still have my Barbour, I don’t think it will fit me now.

Both of us have got a Barbour coat, ours haven't got the capes on though.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I had a red pvc mac as a teenager which I was very proud of. I often wore I when it wasn't raining, it was very hot

Me, ex OH and DDs 1 and 2 all had Barbours when they became very popular.

I remember part of our school uniform was a navy gaberdine, belted, raincoat.

Lizzie, my primary school had a brown uniform, much detested by me. I still dislike the colour brown for clothing. A brown gaberdine mac was our winter coat, with brown blazer for summer.

Lizzie, our school uniform was green and purple and we had dark green belted gaberdines, and green berets which we absolutely had to wear!

Gem, the other girls' grammar school in our city had a brown uniform which made our green and purple look pretty good. I don't think brown is 'your' colour anyway, so no wonder you don't wear it. I never do either - I look ill in brown.

I've still got a waxed jacket which is very shabby now, and I've lost the hood, but I wouldn't part with it. It probably needs to be re-waxed.

Oma, yes I remember my mum having a clear plastic rain hood, as did most women of a certain age in those days.

                I loved anything Mary Quant.

Oma, royal blue sounds much nicer than the navy blue a lot of schools have these days. GD1's uniform has just been changed but it's still blue - lighter than navy but not a nice bright royal blue either. Still the 'kilts' are much better than the pencil straight skirts they used to have and the blazer looks more modern. They have open neck blouses - no ties - which makes a lot of sense!

My grammar school uniform was navy blue , with navy and silver tie and badge. It was very nice. In summer we had a choice of 5 colours for summer dresses.

Gem, that sounds a nice uniform.

Our village primary school has red t-shirts and sweatshirts and they look so bright and cheerful. GD2's uniform is the same boring bottle green that I had all those years ago!
