    Too old for floral patterns?!

I have never really been a fashion follower, preferring to wear what I like and what suits me

This morning on a fashion slot on TV I heard the expert say that you couldn't get away with flowers on clothing after a certain age. And the certain age they were referring to was a lot younger than any of us!

I have never heard this, have any of you?

Should I be weeding any florals out of my wardrobe?

To be honest I don't know how many flowery patterns there are amongst my clothes, but it never occurred to me to avoid them.

Did you know this? Is it just me who was unaware? Or was this expert talking nonsense?

I think the so called expert was talking rubbish.
As i type,i am wearing a white top with pink lillies on.
I do like floral patterns and i have many tops in floral.
If i like a thing,i buy it,whether its floral or not.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I was reading something similar last week Gem, and, someone with knowledge said to wear what you are happy in! They were saying that anything with "larger patterns" are not suitable for the 55+. I am a very plain dresser and maybe flowers could cheer me up!!!

I do realise that certain styles don't suit us as we get older, nor would I want to wear them.
I didn't think that patterns could be ageist though!

I will carry on wearing what I want

Gem - I think the 'expert' was talking a load of old codswallop! Why shouldn't we wear what makes us happy, whatever our age. What I find (for me) is the size of a pattern is more important - very large patterns and co-called ditsy patterns don't look right so I stick to medium size patterns, but I love flowers, abstracts, geometrics, stripes, etc. It's the fabric, colour and style I think about.

By the way, I've gone through "does my hair (now very long) look silly on me, at my age?" But I've decided I like it, OH likes it, so it stays long and grey, and people can think what they like!

Continue to wear what you feel happy in. xx

Daisy , I think we are of a age where we don’t care what people think of us ,
We wear clothes we feel comfy in , we wear our hair as we like and colour we like ,
My hair is at the moment Black ,
The only thing I don’t wear is short dresses and skirts , maybe if I had nice long legs I may even have worn them too 😁
I will grow old disgracefully and upset the stylists on the way 😂😂😂

I was just so surprised to hear that being too old for florals was even 'a thing'!

Gem - probably the same people who devise questionnaires where age grouping stops at 50 - 18-24, 25-30, etc, etc and then the last one 50+!!!

I have a top on today with white daisy like flowers on a blue background. I was lying when I said I didn’t have a floral top.

Jan Leeming (aged 80) had a lovely white top with lace edging and navy flowers on on TV this morning and looked so nice.

I’m a floral pattern wearer too. I remember wearing a floral two piece when in my 40s, I loved it until a (man)friend said “pull yourself together M, you look like a pair of curtains “. I didn’t wear it much after that. 🙄

Grauntie - I bet the man friend thought he was being incredibly witty! I bet now you'd wear the outfit even more.
