    Buying new shoes, etc

I never seem to time it right to buy any sort of footwear!

I need some sturdy trainers for the winter - preferably Gortex uppers. I like a particular brand, which are great support for plantar fasciitis. I wore the last pair for a couple of years before they quite literally fell apart, and bought some lighter ones for the summer (Sketchers) which have been fine but no good for winter where we live.

I found a pair online, going for my third choice in colour to get my size (I'm an 'average' size 5 ½ to 6, and tend to get 6 to allow for cosy socks). Delivery was a week to 10 days, but I could live with that. Then they cancelled my order - I knew stocks were low, but not that low!! I've just bought very similar ones direct from the make's own website, so fingers crossed.

I've also been looking to replace my Crocs slippers for the winter, but they haven't been in stock. I kept checking the website every couple of days - no slippers in yet. I've just checked again and yippee they're in, but would you believe they've already run out of the colour I wanted in my size! I've ordered another colour and keep my fingers crossed I actually get these.

Is this just me, or do other people have similar problems?

I have broad feet so I buy all my shoes from JD Williams as they do several widths ,
Loafers , Sandals, dress shoe's and Slippers

Apart from my Sketchers I get them from Sketchers shop , only thing I don't like about that is if you want wide fitting you have to ask assistant and they bring out sort of a leaflet with limited styles in then get them from the back when you choose the type you want
Well that's how they do it in the Metro centre ,
I tend to buy two pair at a time in Sketchers
Im not fat just 6ft too small

I am not going to buy any shoes for quite a time, I don’t wear trainers or crocs. I have Riker or Ecco lace ups for comfort in the winter, my other winter shoes are slip-ones. Just before the end of the summer I bought a pair of slip on Sketchers and they are so comfortable.

Daisy, could it be because you have a popular size? I have just bought some new shoes, especially so I can use my new support soles more, they are Xsensible, I don't know if you get them in the UK. Oma, I have a wide foot.

I seem to be quite lucky in being able to find what I like in my size (5) , usually Sketchers. I recently bought some Sketchers sandals in the sale, for next summer and Florida, fingers crossed.
I hope you get what you want soon Daisy.

A friend recommend Mephisto shoes, but they are very expensive.

Daisy, have you tried Amazon for the croc slippers? They do a lot of the popular brands on there.

I tend to buy all my shoes from Pavers now.
Usually get them online. When we go to Sheffield i always go in their shop.
Sheffield is the nearest Pavers to us. I'm a six 6 by the way.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Years ago when I worked in Shoe shops the average size for women was a 4 , Men was a 7 ,
We had to know that as part of our training ,
Sizes have grown so much since

Oma - that's amazing how feet sizes have grown!

Nanto - Pavers and Sketchers seem to be very popular.

Enfys - I didn't think of trying Amazon for Crocs because I always get them direct from Crocs, but I did try to buy the trainers on Amazon at first. I got them at the company's own website in the end. You can't win sometimes!

Plant - I like Reiker and especially Ecco shoes, but I seem to spend most of the winter walking through mud and puddles!

Lizzie - Xsensible sound lovely, but I don't think we get them here.

I think 6 is a fairly common size for ladies' feet, so I just assume that they'd stock more of the popular sizes, but they always seem to run out quickly. Perhaps they still think 4 is an average size.

Daisy, just a thought. Have you looked at the outdoor shops like Field and Trek or Millets? Or horsey shops for Muckers. I have to order some of these as the mouse in my shed took all the lining from mine for her nest. 🙄

Grauntie - yes, we've got a Mole Valley country store locally, and Mountain Warehouse, but I was looking for a particular brand of trainers (ASICS) which I used to get from a local sports shops which has closed. They have really good arch support and are a good fit for me. If they turn out to be unsuitable I'll have to widen my search, bsomany thanks for the suggestions.

We've also got a fairly local Go Outdoors, but they do't seem to stock what I want.

Can you buy trainers that are okay in muddy weather?

Plant - when it's muddy here, it's properly muddy and wellies are the best option, but if I'm just out and about generally I don't want to go everywhere in wellies - shopping, going somewhere in the car etc - and I just end up with wet feet if I wear ordinary shoes. So good trainers are great for that sort of situation. I've also got walking boots which are useful, too.
