    Hairstyles

Do you change your hairstyle and/or colour regularly, or do you stick with the same style?

    I haven't changed mine much!
As a child I yearned for long hair. Once I was at secondary school and deemed old enough to take care of it myself I was allowed to grow it. I have never had a short style from that day onwards.
I had waist length hair with centre parting and no fringe throughout my teens, 20's and early 30's. I had it cut to roughly where it is now (touching my shoulders) in my mid 30's. In my early teens I grew out my fringe because I looked too young (LOL!) In my 30's I grew it back to look younger
Apart from those changes, my hair stays the same, it may be an inch or 2 shorter depending on how much my hairdresser takes off.
I colour it myself at home. I have never been blond and never wanted to be, so have never experimented with lighter colours. I would have loved to have red hair, and chose reddish shades when I first coloured my hair.
I can't imagine ever having my hair short, but never say never I suppose!

I used to have my hair longer than it is now but haven't changed it for years. My hair is straight so I have a light perm every 3 months. I have never coloured my hair.

I’ve stuck to the samish short style most of my adult life. When I was at school we weren’t allowed to have hair touching our collar so it had to be short or tied up .Similar when I was nursing. How things have changed. I did have it collar length when I first got married but as it’s rather fine it never hung right. I’ve never coloured my hair ever.

Much healthier to have never coloured your hair Plant and Clover, these colours can't do us any good.
if I my hair were fairer I wouldn't have. I started with those wash in and out colours at 38, when the first greys were showing.

Clover - I think we had the same rule at school - I had mine very short because I was swimming several times a week.

My hair is in a constant state of flux - short, long, short long, somewhere in between, back to short or long ....

Basically I hate it and to me it never looks nice so I'm on an endless quest to find the perfect style which is probably a compromise between what my hair will do and what I'm able to do in terms of styling it! The most successful was a Mary Quant style bob in the 60s, and the 80s Purdy cut wasn't too bad. With good cutting I could just wash and leave both styles.

The only thing I have ever been happy with is the colour. From dark brown (which I dyed sometimes, just wash in, wear out over a few shampoos) it went grey very quickly and very young. I was young enough for it to be a novelty. But of course, the face eventually catches up, and the novelty factor disappears.

At the moment it's long and relatively easy - just wash, comb and tidy up a bit with a hot brush.

Mine has not really changed much over the years in the 60s I had the long hair with the thick Cathy McGowan fringe and stayed with that for a long time.
I have always been blonde from a baby but as I got older it went a sort of dirty blonde and since I was in my mid 20s I have had a wash in colour every couple of months to brighten it up.
Now it is just above waist length (am due a cut soon)with a fringe I put it up with a schrunchy or bull dog clip during the day and plait it when I go to bed,I have had many thoughts about going short but am frightened as to how I would manage it short its just so easy to tie up.

Had mine short for over 40+ years apart from growing it a few years ago ,
Basically the same style too ,
Had it the same way for so long that I can wash it let it dry naturally and it will go into that style itself

I have been Blonde for a very short time the first time I dyed my hair , I liked it so did everyone else but I thought I looked like Pat Butcher on East enders at the time so it went back to Brown ,
Its now quite light with all the Grey
Im not fat just 6ft too small

I would love to have the nerve to try one of the pastel colours that are all the rage with some 60 somethings I know, one lady is pale pink and another is a very bright purple I have to admit that they do look good but I do not have the confidence to do it.

I think those pastel colour wash out over a few washes. I was really keen to have a few different coloured streaks - or sort of rainbow effect, but OH was so horrified I didn't go ahead.

Glamm - do it for both of us.

If I had white to pale blond hair I would love to try pastel colours. I have tried to persuade OH to have some, but she doesn't seem keen!!

I used to have long hair,up until my mid 40's.
It's short now. I never alter the style.
My hair has alway been fine, but seemed to get finer as i got older.
From being in my teens i have had my hair many different colours.
My hair is grey now,i haven't coloured it for many years.
For the last few years i coloured my hair,i did it blonde. I used to vary shades though.

Since I was 14 I have experimented with every colour under the sun and every style and I’m still at it! I treat it like a hat, if I get fed up, I change it. It grows.
Luckily it’s quite good tempered stuff.

Grauntie - you're a girl after my own heart - but it sounds as though your hair is better tempered than mine!
