Are socks underwear?

I have just had a look at one or two department online shops and they list socks separate from underwear .
I wouldn't class them as underwear, if someone caught a glimpse of your socks when you are out and about it wouldn't worry you but if it were your undies that were on public display it would be a different matter

Mimi and Gemini - I see lots of ladies out and about with their bras on show these days, so perhaps bras aren't underwear either. In fact with micro skirts, and thongs and builder's bum syndrome there's not much left that's hidden from public view.
