    World book day

Am I the only one that dislikes this ,
Not because it's world book day but this trend that the children have to dress up for it.
There are families struggling to put food on the table but then have the pressure of having to have costumes so their child doesn't feel left out,
What if they have more than one child needing a costume?

Why can't the schools let the children make hats and masks in class depicting their favourite book
    Then all children are alike.

Our Martin and Clair sent us pictures of Finn in his costume this morning,
Clearly not a cheap one all for one day and to say look we can afford the best ,
Don't get me wrong he looked cute and I love them , but it makes my blood boil.

It's about time parents took a stand against this trend ,
I have always disliked the Mother and fathers day cards ,
Some children don't have one parent or the other or even both parents ,
Again that could just be a generic card without Mummy or Daddy on.

    Rant over 😁

Oma, I agree. It can be a lot of pressure.
I was thinking this morning that it's unlikely little E would have a costume with all that is going on in their lives at the moment.

I agree with the books based activities which may encourage reluctant readers, but elaborate costumes need not be part of that.As you say, making something in class is a much better idea.

Oma, I agree. It puts an enormous pressure on parents and some children. GD2's school World Book Day is a photo of the child reading a book in an unusual place, so it could be something simple, like sitting under a table or on a fence, but inevitably there will be parents who go much further. I think it's just a non-uniform day, but not sure about that. Some children feel really uncomfortable if they have to dress up, and I sympathise with them as well.

I remember when our DSs were in First School and they were making things like Christmas cards, Mother's day etc there were children whose religion forbade that and staff had to be allocated to do other activities with them. It was even harder when they were doing Christmas plays etc.

          He looks so cute Oma

I agree though it wouldn't be cheap and it won't fit him next Book Day I'm sure.

Oma, I've noticed quite a few parents asking for, and others offering, costumes for World Book Day on our local WhatsApp groups. Hopefully special costumes like Finn's are worn many times by different children.

Little E's nursery didn't do any costumes for World Book Day. Instead they put books in the entrance which children could borrow. There was a sheet inside each book for any families who wanted to write a review of the book or books their child read.

They also had a Swap Box this week where children could leave a book that didn't want any more and take a different book home.

                  What a great idea Gem,
Especially when I bet there are children who don't have a book of their own.

I hope they do the same with Finn's costumes as he has several he has grown out of .

Gem, what a great idea. All the children can benefit.

Oma, I hope Finn's costumes get passed on to other children as well.
