I mentioned on my books thread,
Yesterday I took 14 books to Morrisons as they have a charity book shelf ,
You choose a book and put a donation in the charity box,

The sad part was the charity box was screwed to the book case to deter thieves,
It's behind the checkouts but I suppose that won't stop would be thieves would it,

This morning we went to Iceland and Lidl both had chains on their charity boxes,

What is the world coming too when people will steal charity boxes,

My great niece's partner owns a large garden centre and they were broken into one night before Christmas and all they stole was the very full tips jar from the cafe.
Now what was the point of that ,
    Mindless some people .

It beats me Oma. We have people shoplifting from our local charity shop!
    Nothing is safe nowadays.

I don't think anywhere is safe from thieves now.
They are't fussy where/what the money is for, they will take it.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

We have growers here that have stalls outside, there used to be cash safes to put your money in, they were broken into so now most of them have QR codes from the banks so we pay with our phones.

Even worse is where I used to go for tomatoes, so many were stolen that they stopped selling them to the public.

            Such a shame Lizzie,
We have several cake huts with honesty boxes ,
Each day home baked goods are stocked and you can go pick what you want and put the money in the box or like your growers a QR code,
However I have heard a lot are just being cleared out and no money left ,
Some have even installed CCTV in them .

Gone are the days of honesty and morals .

That is so sad. What kind of person thinks it's ok to steal from a charity box.

The town where my DS2/DIL2 have their shop had a spate of break-ins and thefts from all sorts of shops a couple of years ago. They were lucky but it's scary and upsetting. They have their till on the counter and at night the drawer is left wide open so thieves can see there's no cash. Many of the shops have notices saying no cash is kept on the premises. Hopefully the shop alarms would alert resident in the flats above, but often the police aren't available to investigate. I think it would help if the police did bike or foot patrols like they used to, but perhaps it's too risky nowadays.

It's rare to see the bobby on the beat now Daisy isn't it ,
It's a more violent age I think so when you do occasionally see them , (usually in the summer months ), they are in pairs .
We would often see them in our shopping mall but they closed the big police station up the road so you don't see any now..

Its awful Oma, we have all heard of charity boxes being stolen. The lowest of the low to even think of doing that.

Oma, I think seeing police around towns and villages is a very good deterrent. It's such a pity so many local police stations have been closed down. We have two policemen who do a half day surgery in our village once a month. They are very good, but it's not like seeing the bobby on the beat.
