The Elderly

Isn't it strange how some elderly people are sweet and nice then you have others that are down right nasty ,

As you know my MIL comes in the latter category,


She's rude, demanding, unappreciative and nasty most of the time.
Very narcissistic everything has to revolve around her and she isn't interested in anyone else being ill or upset ,
As long as she has everyone's attention and rushing around after her.

She then tells strangers no one does anything for her , she has no help whatsoever 🤬

Then you have the lovely ones like my elderly neighbours,
Sweet people who hate to be a burden and will only ask for help when absolutely necessary,
Always grateful for even a 5 minute phone call to check on them or if we pop down for a chat.

I hope when I am of that age I'm one of the sweet ones,
I would hate to think I put my family through what MIL does to us .

I agree with you Oma, the lady down on the 4th floor appreciates everything done for her, never asks for help, loves visitors etc. I know there are people that are just the opposite!! She has help with showering etc, now 3 times in a week, I often see the young lady, she says she wishes all her patients were like her!!!

Mam was very grateful for everything we did.
Dad used to tell people no one helped. The majority of people knew it wasn't true.

An ex-colleague of mine always maintains that people tend not to improve with age, and I wonder if the rude, unappreciative people have always been like that, or used to be little rays of sunshine and sweetness.

The slightly worrying aspect of this, though, at what age to other people consider you to be "elderly"? I always thought "people in their 80s", but now I think "people in their 80s, but not me"!!

My MIL has always been like that so she's just getting worse,
It's when she puts this sweet little old lady act on for the nurses ,

It annoys us all .

I remember a little while ago being asked to fill in a questionnaire and there were the usual basic questions including which age group were you - 16-20, 21-28, 29-35 etc, etc and the last one was Over 50!!
