I've mentioned elsewhere that Eva has to have an x-ray on Friday, which is done under a general anaesthetic. The vets sent the following advice via email. The vets is a mixed practice split into large animals (horses, cattle etc) and small animals (companion animals). So this started off sounding sensible.
Small animals have a very delicate digestive tract, and therefore maintaining a normal diet is also important to reduce stress levels and prevent gastro-intestinal upset. We would advise brining a 'packed lunch' for Eva, which could include a range of hay, pellets and vegetables that she is used to eating so that these can be offered throughout her hospital stay. Bringing bowls, bottles and bedding is also advisable so that a more homely environment can be created for Eva.
When we'd finished laughing I rang the vets, and said would a tin of tuna be ok. You can't take raw food in, and Eva has a severe allergy to chicken. Yes, tuna was a great idea! Thank goodness. No matter how groggy or hungry she was she wouldn't touch the rabbit food.
The vets has a new computer system and all the staff are struggling with it!
