    White peacock spotting

I have promised this thread all week!

Many years ago, when I was the mum of two small girls, I saw two white peacocks. I had never even heard of white peacocks at this point.

We lived in a small two bedroomed terraced house with a yard at the back. We had two friends, a couple visiting us.
I was in the kitchen making drinks for us all when on the back wall I saw two beautiful white peacocks!

I dashed into the living room to tell the others but they had flown off by the time we went back. No phone cameras in those days of course.
Neither my OH nor our friends believed me!!
I promise you it is completely true.

        They were indeed beautiful.
We lived 10 to 15 minutes walk from the Museum Gardens where peacocks lived.
Not white ones though and they never strayed that far from the gardens.

Gem, that is amazing. I've never seen white peacocks at all. I can understand people not believing you - they must be incredibly rare.

I'm always fascinated by ordinary peacocks - so full of themselves, and very dramatic, unlike the modest and unassuming peahens. We had a static caravan on a farm on Angelsey for many years. The farmer kept peacocks, and they were regular visitors to the caravans. Particularly early in the morning - 4am in the summer. We got used to the heavy landings on the roof which would make the whole van shake, and then hear them thudding along the length of the van. Then they decided to peck at the amber perspex roof lights until they went in holes. OH sorted the problem out by replacing the perspex with Pyrex pudding bowls. They never managed to peck through them.

The ones we saw was at a hotel in the countryside , a stately home, apparently the local village had a problem with the peacocks ,too many roaming around terrorising the local cats and destroying flower beds .
They were mostly ordinary peacocks but these white ones were amazing.
They are bigger than you imagine and there claws are quite big .

I read they had specialist's trying to round them up with not much luck.

Gem, such a shame you didn't have a camera to prove the doubting Thomas's wrong 😁

Yes today Oma, with instant photos, plus Google and looking on local FB and What's App I would have been able to prove it!

We did have a camera, but would only have had film in it for Christmas, holidays and the children's birthdays.
