    A Snail Rave!

Did anyone experience the ‘snail rave’ on Wednesday night? In the late evening, our patio was almost heaving with snails. OH said the paths on his nightly stroll with Bess were likewise. I can’t say I’ve seen it before.

    No, we didn't!

How weird. Had it been raining Grauntie? I have seen a fair amount of snails in the evening after rain before.

Grauntie, I'm with Oma - get the lights up, the music on and invite us all round, please. There's been no snail rave here, although Eva found one very small snail on the patio a couple of nights ago. She gave it a sniff and carefully stepped over it!

Some years ago I did a mad photography project on macro (close up) photography, and photographed lots of snails. When I blew them up (on the screen only) I was amazed how intricate their markings are.

Daisy, I thought you meant "blowing" them up like a balloon.

Hahaha, Lizzie. I thought as I typed blowing up it might be a bit ambiguous. I still remember the shock and horror when I once told someone I'd been shooting the ducks on the pond! I was, of course using a camera, but she wasn't to know that.

You are crackers, all of you! 🙃🤣🤣
I have come to the conclusion that they were ganging up on me for removing their relatives from my precious plants and sending them to the garden recycling centre. Maybe I misread the whole thing and it was a protest, not a party.

Grauntie, your snail rave has stuck in my mind, and now the weather promises to be damper and cooler for a few days, I'm on high alert for snails and their naked cousins, slugs. Then I read in the RHS mag that not all slugs are bad guys - Leopard slugs eat debris, dead wood etc and and even the bad-guy slugs. The resulting process is beneficial to the soil.

This is probably far more information than any of us ever wanted to know about slugs.
