    Ice cream parlours

In the book I am reading characters frequently go to a an ice cream parlour.

I would love to go to one!
When my DDs were small there was one in our town and we went a few times. I have fond memories if going to one in the Isle of Man as a child with my parents
There is famous one in Scarborough. I think I will have to go next time we are over there

Gem you need to come to Swansea or rather Mumbles. There is a lovely independent ice cream parlour called Verdis right on the sea front with views over Swansea bay. They make their own ice cream in delicious flavours. As the owners are Italian they also serve pizzas etc. It is also a coffee shop with delicious semi- freddo desserts and pastries.
Also in Mumbles and Swansea town there is an ice cream parlour called Joe’s . My DD is not a big ice cream fan but she does like Joe’s.

I think there were more ice cream parlours about when I was a child. I remember them in every shopping centre, and loads in Blackpool. I remember most of them as being Art Deco in design. I loved them.

Clover, I've heard of the Italian one - it's very well-known.

Maybe I will have to go on a UK ice cream parlour tour

Clover I have been to Swansea many times as one of my aunties lived there. Not since my late teens though as the auntie moved back to Yorkshire then

I have just remembered that the inside of the ice cream parlour in the Isle of Man was like the inside of an igloo. Very magical!
              Happy memories

Gem, that igloo must have seemed like magic. No wonder you remember it so fondly.

Reading this thread reminds me about the first time we took our GSs to visit their cousins in America. We became frequent visitors to the ice cream parlour which boasted "33 flavour and vanilla". Our DS1 was spoilt for choice and worked his way through most of the flavours. DS2 (who was about 6) had vanilla every single time!

Lots of ice cream parlours in Scotland mainly due to the Italians who were here after the 2nd World War. Many had been POWs and stayed on and brought their families over. It wasn't only ice cream parlours but fish and chip shops too. In my home town there were at least three Italian families with both ice cream and chip shops and who are still there today.
Nothing like proper Italian ice cream!

My maternal grandfather was Italian - maybe that's where my love of ice cream comes from

When i was a child, we used to go to Blackpool twice a year.
There was an ice cream parlour there called Pablos. I loved it.
My grandparents wouldn't go anywhere else for ice cream.

Nanto, I don't specifically remember Pablos in Blackpool, but I do remember loving going to them. My Mum would take me to Blackpool for a week every August. My Mum and Dad had to have separate holidays as they couldn't close the shop.
