This morning we decided to rather than go to our Asda over the road to go to the Asda superstore about 10 minutes drive away.
To get to it. You have to go via what was a dirt track past farm land ,

Well now the farm land is Nissans battery giga factory.
This building is huge taking acres and acres of farmland up and it immensely high it looms over the landscape.

Once this one is finished they announced another one beside it will be built.

This is bringing employment to the area not only in the building of these factories but the vast road work changes they are making ,
Gone has the lovely country road now a swath of tarmac and roundabouts.
There will also be lots of jobs at these factories but all this wonderful farmland has gone ,
This is besides the huge Nissan car factory alongside it.

such a shame to see the land changed like this but progress is progress and if there is a need and it’s bringing much needed employment then we must adapt and accept .
Doesnt stop us feeling a little sad that we won’t see the crops and cattle anymore, but the Farmer must have sold his land at a tidy sum.

So much of our countryside has been taken over by huge shopping parks and roads. The areas around York have changed totally in my lifetime.

As you say Oma, great for creating employment but not to see the countryside disappearing.

Oma, very sad, it is happening everywhere. We have a lot of woodland around us and some is going for building houses but the Government has said no to one large area much to our delight as it would have impacted on our village considerably.

We are protected from this type of large scale industrial development because we live in a National Park. You even need to get planning permission for a medium size garden shed! However, it's really sad to see the wholesale loss of farmland and massive industrial development in various places around the country. I understand the need for economic growth and employment opportunities, and it's good to see investment on such a scale.

What I do wonder, though, is there sometimes an alternative? In some places you see large areas of decay and neglect. Huge buildings, rows of smaller houses/buildings empty, neglected and crumbling away. I wish some such areas could be used for redevelopment and regeneration, putting jobs into communities and reducing the need for development of what could be productive farmland. Also we need to make farming pay so farmers don't want to give up their land for other purposes.

Quite a few years ago now a local field was a haven for badgers . Despite our best efforts by local residents and animal charities building permission was granted. “ We’ll move the badgers “ we were told as well a minute strip of land being left for any remaining badgers. Well pigs might fly! What happened to the animals we never know. Then to add insult to injury the development was named “Badgers Meadow”
Another local development was built on a lovely field where horses used to live. It was separated from the road by a wonderful mixed hedge. I know new houses are needed especially for new buyers but again the name “Hedgerows “ rubbed salt into the wound.🙁

There is lots of brown belt land being left to rack and ruin that could be used for development .
Unfortunately these giga factories need more than that.

It is vast though, you see it on TV and in newspapers but until your actually next to it do you get the full idea of its size

Its the size of 23 football pitches , one building is 360 meters long

Clover, that's the sort of development that upsets me, too. Imagine all the biodiversity that was lost in just those two examples.
