    Brand snob

    Following on from Gem's post about the Heinz offers in Sainsburys.

    Apparantly,according to some members of the family, i am a brand snob.

    I admit i am wih some products. Tomato ketchup and salad cream has to be Heinz.
    Mayonnaise has to be Hellmans, and bread has to be Warburtons.
    Frozen fish products have to be Birds Eye,100% cod.
    I do buy Asda frozen veggies and Asda tinned soups and tinned tomatoes.
    Meat is bought from my favourite butcher in town, although i do like steak from the farm shop.
    They never believe that we don't waste anything, but honestly we don't.
    If i have something like potatoes that need using,i will make them into mash or roast potatoes for the freezer.
    I always like to keep plenty of onions in,but if they need using,i will peel and slice them up for the freezer.
    Today i bought some lovely fresh mushrooms to go with the steak we are having tomorrow.
    If they don't get used up in the next couple of days, i will slice and freeze them to use in stews and pies.
    Sometimes I forget to like posts,but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

    Help me then Nanto, because I am unwell, I have carrots and small potatoes that need preserving in some way otherwise they will have to be thrown away.

      You just know what you like Nan2 Nothing wrong with that.

      I buy Taylor's ground coffee and wouldn't buy a supermarket own brand.
      Earl Grey tea which I used to buy Twinings only I now often buy the much cheaper Tesco Finest ones which I like just as much.

      I'm with you with the Heinz ketchup and Hellman's mayonnaise .

            I don’t think you are a brand snob Nanto2. We are not averse to trying other brands but most times find them lacking in flavour or consistency. Meat is expensive so it pays to be selective. If we couldn’t afford to buy our favourites we would just get on with it and find ways to tart up the cheaper own brands.
            Plant, just send the carrots and spuds next door. 😆

              Plant, you are not feeling your best,i wouldn't worry about the carrots and potatoes.
              Maybe family could use them.
              Sometimes I forget to like posts,but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

                I must admit there are certain things we don’t compromise on ,
                Has to be Heinz Ketchup, Hammond chop sauce, Lurpak butter although I will use Aldi’s
                Birds eye 100%cod fish fingers , Branson pickle and baked beans , we don’t like Heinz baked beans ,
                Nescafe coffee if instant or B likes a good coffee bean , Johnson’s Tea I can only get it in Morrisons or Tesco.

                We buy our meat at the farm shop ,plus bacon sausages etc , and I like M&S fruit,

                I will try any brand once to be honest , don’t always like them but you don’t know unless you try , but as I say certain things we won’t change.

                  I think we all have certain brands of things that we like better than other brands, irrespective of price. Yes, Heinz tomato ketchup is a must. I buy Hellman's Mayonnaise, but always think it's not as good as home-made mayo. I use Sainsbury's own brand unsalted butter, but if I buy spreadable (for use in the caravan) I'd rather have Lurpak. I like Duerr's thick cut marmalade - it's nice and tangy.

                  Bread is the worst thing - I don't like any of the shop-bought ones as much as what we make at home. They all taste of chemicals to me!

                  Plant, I think you could put the small potatoes and the carrots on a tray to open freeze them and then use them in casseroles etc when you feel up to cooking. Sorry you're still feeling poorly. xx

                    Daisy I don't know if it is only available in the north, but Jacksons bread is very nice and promises to be free of additives. Still not as good as home made of course

                      Oh, i forgot tosay, tea has to be Yorkshire tea and coffee has to be Nescafe original.
                      Sometimes I forget to like posts,but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

                        I like Duerrs marmalade too Daisy ,
                        Good idea about the potatoes and carrots .

                        I try to buy the low GI bread rolls from Lidle for myself they better for diabetics and seeded bread for toast,
                        I used to like Burgen’s bread but they have stopped producing it .
                        Not keen on white sliced at all.

                          I don't drink 'builder's tea', so tend to just buy what is on offer! Yorkshire, Tetley etc. OH hasn't expressed any preferences and as I say I never drink it so have no opinion

                            Gem, I've never seen it round here, but because I always make it, I tend not to look. If I'll spot it though, I'll give it a try as I do sometimes forget to bake and run out!

                              They sell Jacksons bread in Waitrose, it is more expensive than other brands. My DD has taken over my bread machine and is making all their bread.

                              Daisy, would I need to cook the carrots and potatoes first.
