Plant, sadly, that's the case with so many things children used to do and enjoy. Our sons both belonged to a children's sailing club, which the members (all under 16) ran for themselves - organising races, competitions, social events, everything. The only adult intervention was the Secretary who handled the bank account. They sailed on an old flooded salt pan, right by the Solent, and the only rule was no running on the slipways as they were slippy! Now there is a huge manual, constant risk assessments, and enough red tape to sink a boat! The spontaneity and fun has gone, and the children don't have the same sense of 'ownership' because they don't have a voice anymore.
"Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "
