Gem, that's lovely, and so true.
I think for most of us the emphasis of our role with our grandchildren changes as they grow. If we look after them when they're babies it's all care, cuddles and almost a return to the days with our own babies.
I feel with my 9 year old GD we still share lots of giggles and cuddles. I've got of a bit of teacher role, but also learn from her to some extent. Whereas my GS1 who'd nearly 20, I ask his advice, we discuss topics of the day, and it's always interesting to hear his views on the world in general - and they are sometimes similar to mine, but can be polar opposites.

At the moment I feel the older two, 13 and 10 don't really enjoy spending time with us as such.
Bless my 6 year old GS who definitely still does, and the beautiful baby who hopefully will for many years to come“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown

I'm sure it's a normal part of growing up. they have to spread their wings a little, but generally return to the fold, so to speak.
Oma, same here - I have some very interesting conversations with our GSs.

My GC , look after me now, tell me not to do things I shouldn't, come to me for sewing needs and gardening advice. They help me with computer problems. The GGC 6, 4 and 2 are fun but of course close to their GP, they turn to me for help if GP are elsewhere, otherwise I am just the old lady who sits in a chair and helps with puzzles, reads books, dresses dolls, mends dolls clothes etc. Oh and occasionally makes nice cakes and crumbles.Last edited by Plantaholic; 14-03-2023, 11:29 AM.What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare

Gem, I think it is all part of them growing up and being independent. The plan is that GD1 stays here for a week in april whilst studying for her exams, the rest are going to Brighton and London for a week, she has chosen not to go, she says she knows her way around Brighton blindfolded and has to study!
