    Household rubbish

Talking about this on chat thread ,
How good are your refuse collections
i was saying that if your elderly or disabled you can have the collectors come into your garden to collect your bin then return it when empty ,
My MIL has 3 flights of steps up to her house , when we go over on a Thursday we put the bin at the top of her steps so that the bin men can take it down to empty on a Friday and then they will put it back at the top of the steps for his sister to take back in as MIL insists the gate is locked after B takes it out so they can’t get in .

We have our household waste collected every two weeks , fine for us but a nightmare if you have a family ,
The rule is if the bags are not in the bin and down by the bin they won’t be collected ,

People are balancing bags of top of bags like a circus act as then technically they are in the bin and they must take them.

Its a ridiculous rule it’s going to end up with fly tipping , not everyone has transport to get to the local tip .
As long as it’s bagged correctly and only put out on bin day it shouldn’t be a problem .

Their logic is it will encourage more recycling ,
If people didn’t bother before this isn’t going to make any difference to them now , just create a bigger problem .

we have a Green bin for household , A Blue bin for recycle and a Brown bin for garden waste that costs £35 a year to be emptied.
As we only have plastic grass and two tiny boarders we don’t have a Brown bin .

Household waste(grey bin) is collected fortnightly.
Cardboard and newspapers (blue bin) is collected monthly.
Plastic (brown bin) is also collected monthly.
Garden waste (green bin) is collected fortnightly from spring to autumn.
You do see bins with bags perched on top.
Our bin day is on a wednesday, this week it is the turn of the brown bin.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I dread the wheelie bins coming to our area! Our general waste black bag and recycling bag are both collected every week, and glass box recycling once a month. We don't have food recycling (thank goodness, I can't imagine what that must be like in the heat of the summer). We don't bother with a green bag for garden waste - they don't hold much and OH takes it down to the tip in his trailer.

But our bin men are generally very good. If a plastic bag gets opened by a fox or crow they do clear up the litter, and if you leave extra, say boxes, next to the recycling bag they collect them as well.

Oma, I agree. The more onus they put on households to comply with what sounds like rules for jobsworths, the more people will fly tip.

Our rubbish collection is changing sometime this year .
At the moment there is a black bin collection every other week for general household rubbish. There is also a green bin , every other week, for plastic, paper , glass bottles.

It is going to change to

Waste collections: Week 1 paper and card.
        ; Week 2 plastics, cans and glass. Plastics ;
        Week 3 general waste.;
Weekly general food collecton ( in small caddy bins to be collected by bike, pedicabs)
Fortnightly seasonal gardening (composting).this is an opt in with an extra charge
All of these will be , apart from weekly general waste, in new wheelie bins but what arrangements for us that aren't allocated bins we don't know at the moment.

Mimi - that sounds like a lot of wheelie bins. I bet some households won't have enough space to keep them all! What on earth happens with flats I wonder.

You will have to know what week it is Mimi!!

We have wheelie bins for general waste (grey) and garden waste (green). They are emptied fortnightly on alternate weeks. The grey is emptied all year round, the green between March and November I think it is.
We have boxes for recycling, and these are collected on the alternate week to the grey bin. But on a different day to the green bin. So in green bin season you have two days to remember to put things out every other week!

We don't have to pay for anything.

Most people near when I live can put out their own bins and boxes, or neighbours or relatives do it for them (I always went every week to do my mum's)
Year ago we had elderly neighbours next door who were housebound. I noticed that the bin men would collect the bin from near the house. We all have to have them on the edge of our property so I suppose they must have requested the collection from their property due to their disabilities.

These are what we have, underground containers. The only one we haven't got in the street is the glass one, that is opposite the Lidl. All streets have them here in the village, I think most councils use them now. I did see that they were doing trials with them in the UK, but, I have forgotten which city. 379d4f67-655d-4819-8eb8-a5ff760852f0.jpg
