    baby love

The baby closed her eyes and snuggled down, her hand over her face, trying to recreate that warm, darkish enclosed world which until very recently she had inhabited.
Her world had changed totally! It had been very surprising, traumatic and uncomfortable, her transition from that world to this one. Now, it was not so bad. She was adjusting to all the new sensations. She slept a lot and dreamed, as she had in that other world.

Every so often her eyes would open, and shapes would loom over her, sometimes speaking to her. Her mother she knew so well, and being against her breast was her favourite place. Her father's voice too was familiar and comforting.
She loved the feeding and cuddles, and the warm feeling of falling asleep in this soft cosy new home where she lay.
She was far less keen on the undressing, cleaning and wiping! Those new sensations weren't ones she liked at all. In time, no doubt she would adjust to that too. So many things had changed in the last few hours.

The next time the baby awoke from a nap, another face was over her. Different arms enclosed her, gently but oh so firmly.
A nice voice, one she had heard before.
A little drop of wetness on the baby's head! The voice saying 'My beautiful, beautiful granddaughter. I can't believe how perfect you are. You have made a Grandma of me. A new life for both of us. I think I will be in love with you for life!'

Gem - that's a beautiful sweet story. I've often thought it is a pity we can't remember our baby days. xx
