New Beginnings - A Poetry Challenge for the New Year

We've eaten the mince pies, devoured the Christmas cake and will soon be packing away all the festive decorations for another year. It's a good time to think about the year ahead and make plans, so while you're in reflective mode, why not have a go at our latest Poetry Challenge.

The theme is NEW BEGINNINGS and can be on any topic you choose. If you've never tried this before, please have a go. Your poem can be long, short, funny, sad or whatever you make it. Or you can share a poem that you have enjoyed or has special meaning for you.

Stories are also very welcome - see the Story Corner under Creative Grannies.

    Happy writing!!

I'm determined to have a go although I find poetry much harder than prose!

        A new Year
        A new me?
        Let me think
        What will I be?
        A lot less tired
        Twelve pounds less
        More tolerant
        A lot less stress
        Less feeling sad
        More time for me
        Happy thoughts
        More energy?
        But I think not
        As I am now
        Will be my lot
        I pray for health
        To get me through
        And so I wish
        The same for you.

Just a spur of the moment few thoughts

Well, I said I've have a go and I have. It's so much harder than writing a story, but I enjoyed having a go!

                New Beginnings - Poem

Old Father Time goes marching on

He heeds no stars or moons or sun.

Trudge on, says he, year on year,

Don’t moan at me, don’t shed a tear.

                Amid the brash, tumultuous rush

It seems there’s never time for us.

“Get some milk”, “Feed the cat”

“Mow the lawn”, “You’re getting fat”.

We speed through days without a thought

For things we should and ought

To say and do to cherish love

And thank our stars and God above.

Let’s mark what’s gone and greet a new forever.

Pause dear one, in stillness, close together

And vow this year all bright and new

Will cast love’s light in rainbow hue.

                  Awwwwwww!
Very well done Daisy. Poetry is hard to write, I'll have a go but it's not my forte really.

                        The Year

January, February, March , April and May
The months will pass day by day
However you fill them, whatever you do
The time will not stand still for you
                        June, July, August, September
Our thoughts then turn towards December
Festive days lead us to the years end
And a new begining is around the bend!
