    It's a Tradition.

    It’s a Tradition

For ten long months she’d waited
And now the day was here.
At last she’d see the light of day
    The highlight of her year.
“Here she is” the children shouted
Their joy was plain to see
As gently she was lifted out
    And placed atop the tree.
    But then someone remembered.
    “Oh at that Christmas Fair
We bought a shiny silver star
So let’s put that up there”
So Fairy Belle was taken down
And tossed on to a chair,
The star was put in pride of place
    Nobody seemed to care.
    Abandoned and heart-broken
    Fairy’s tears began to flow
She’d been on top for twenty years
Was now her time to go?
Then suddenly young John spoke up
“Oh that’s not right” he said
“The star can go on lower down
    I want Fairy there instead
    It’s a family tradition
That we don’t need to break
Fairy Belle is part of Christmas
    Like Mum’s boozy Christmas Cake!”
And so the star was taken down
    And Fairy reinstated
    Tradition means so much
    When memories are created.

      Lovely poem Clover.

We still have the same fairy that goes on our tree every Christmas. We brought her from Woolworths back in 1973.
Several years ago we brought a HUGE artificial Christmas and I thought our small fairy would look lost on top of such a big tree so I brought a (biggish) star to go on the top of our new tree.
When it came to assembling the tree ,after a lot of huffing and puffing and moans like ' What was wrong with the old tree ' we finally got the thing up only to discover that the star wouldn't fit as the tree was almost touching the ceiling. Out of her box came the fairy and on top of the tree she went.

When we moved there was no room for the big tree so we had to buy a small one as our sitting room isn't very big.
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

I love it, Clover. Very clever and I bet most of us have some decorations that come out year after year. 😍

Clover, you are clever, that's lovely!
I'm another greatly relieved that Belle was saved and reinstated

Lovely poem Clover. I have made a few fairies for different people over the years, I wonder if they still come out at Christmas? I have a glass bauble that we had as children, it comes out every year.

That is a lovely poem. Our fairy is about 70 years old, my mother gave it to me as she had another. Say hello when I get her out and give a kiss goodbye and say hope to see you next year.

I'm so sorry, I have a huge apology to make.
In moving the interesting posts about buttons, and Christmas decorations to a new thread, I have lost them.
I inadvertently deleted them. I thought I had duplicated the posts so deleted and poof, all were gone. I have tried but can't get them back.
I'm very sorry. I wanted Clovers poem thread to be just that, and I wanted the other posts somewhere easier for us to find.
