My old machine which belonged to MIL and is over 50 years old is aBernina but gave up the ghost and would cost more to repair than my new machine. I am really pleased with my new Brother and have just finished my first little quilt, just the edges to bind now. When I was looking to buy a new machine there are so few shops locally selling them and I didn't want to buy online so was somewhat limited in what I could buy after seeing them in real life.
