Handmade by my OH - his first segmented bowl

Oma asked to see a photo of this, so here it is. I think my OH is pleased with it. All the pieces of wood had to be glued together, securely, before turning can start. This one is about 18" in diameter and too heavy to lift with one hand! It was made from spare oak from our neighbour's new kitchen work surface, and OH has given it to them as a fruit bowl. They'll have to buy a lot of fruit!

That is a true work of art Daisy! I don t think I would put anything in it, just display it.

I dread to think what a piece like that would cost in a gallery!
        Well done to your OH

Thank you all. I will pass on your remarks, even though they might make him difficult to live with for the foreseeable future!!!!

Thank you, Nanto. I love it when the grains in the wood start to show and it's all different colours.

Oma - Brian is doing well - he jumped straight into to doing difficult turning with that bowl you showed us a while ago.

OH has made odd pieces of fruit - I'll post a picture of some of it.

I love wooden fruit, I have a nice wooden bowl, I might look out for some rather than just put odds and ends in it.

That is fabulous Daisy! Gem is right, it would cost a bomb. What a talented man you have.

Grauntie - He really ought to start to sell some of his pieces, but as I said this one was spoken for. He's just about to make a smaller bowl for a lady in the village. He and a friend took down a tree for her in her old house and he kept a piece of the wood to make the bowl as a memory in her new house. It's taken over a year for the wood to dry out enough. He really enjoys doing it - and it keeps him out of mischief!

Plant - the wood turning club he belongs to has a charity sale (pre-Covid) and members donate items. Last time he put some fruit in - mostly apples and pears. The one orange sold and it was the one item OH thought was the least well done!

Daisy B is really into it now , he is loving it .
He not only done wood turning but made some lovely acrylic turned pens for Christmas for me DD and Friend , well I think it’s Acrylic , colourful and heavy ,
Of course his bowls are smaller as he only has a small lathe but they are nice ,

Oma - what a pity B's just had a birthday. You could have got him a bigger lathe. Another friend of J's has been turning with resin. The pressure kit (think that's what it is) needed was quite expensive, and so is the resin, but he's made some amazing things with it.

                            Still, it's a good hobby!

Daisy it’s a question of space , he is now talking about a bigger shed , if we got anything bigger we could rent it out it would be like a chalet 😂😂😂,
The garden is small enough with this one

The Acrylic isn’t cheap but it comes in lovely colours doesn’t it , he has started small being new to it and so far only messed up once .
