    A commission - a big challenge

I haven't done much painting for several months - I've got two unfinished pictures on the easels but life seems to have got busy and I haven't made time to paint. But I do want to get going again.

When my niece visited on Sunday she was looking at the 'gallery' and then asked if I could paint a picture for her. Gulp!! It's one thing splashing a bit of paint around for your own amusement, quite another to paint something someone would want to hang on their wall!

She'd like a snow scene with a hare in it. I can't draw and I've never painted an animal, so why did I say "yes"!!!

I've started a couple of sketches, but it's going to take a lot of practice!

          Thank you all.

Gem - definitely no pressure, then!

Your niece must have thought your painting were good for her to give you a commission but I can understand it does put pressure onto you.

I'm finding this quite a challenge! I usually paint from one of my photos, but I haven't got any photos of hares. So I've spent a lot of time practising drawing them from various angles. And also dreaming up a scene to put it/them in!

I've prepped a canvas and put sky in and tomorrow hope to do a basic snowy background and get something like a path or stream to give some perspective.

It's good to try something new, I know. I keep telling myself that!!!

                  Hahaha!

Gem - that's what I've been doing, plus "how to draw" videos, but most of what I've seen is copyright so I'd rather come up with something 'original'. I don't kid myself that if I did copy something it would be identifiable - I'm struggling to make it look like a hare at all, but I want to feel I've done it properly.

Oh, and I want it to have a bit of character. But I'll settle for something that just looks like a hare!

Aww, thank you for your confidence, Gem. I just want my niece to be pleased with it, but I am enjoying doing something different.

Go on Daisy ,you can do it.😀In the Countryfile calendar this year there is a photo of a hare in the snow. It seems a popular subject. Have you got a deadline ?

Thank you, Clover. Yes hares are popular. The deadline is Christmas.
