    From seascapes to snowscapes

I haven't done much painting since before Christmas. It got too cold and damp to paint in the summerhouse, and the garden was even less appealing (roll on summer!), so I moved my table and art stuff into the dining room by the window. It's not as though we're going to be having visitors and need to eat in there, is it!

I've watched a couple of tutorials on painting snow, which were very interesting and made it look easy. (Especially as one of the artists has never seen snow in real life!) It isn't. I'll do a bit more and then post a photo of the work in progress.

    Looking forward to it Daisy

OH is able to have her jigsaws on the dining room table for that same reason, no entertaining!
She has a Jigroll so it rolls up easily when we do need the table, but at the moment it is mostly her jigsaw station.

This is the Work-in-Progress - a long way to go yet!! Some people have been having trouble viewing photos so if you can't see this could you let us know, please. We're trying to find out why.

Ta daaaa! the finished pic. It's my first attempt at trees as well as snow. This is only small - 8 x 10" - and the canvas was quite rough. I think I need to use paint more thickly or more layers to cover properly, but it's all a learning curve.

That is very good Daisy. I love snow scenes.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Thank you Gem and Nanto. Gem - a Christmas card design hadn't crossed my mind. We have a friend who paints a gorgeous card every year. It's generally a snow scene with traditional things like Robins or snow covered pillar boxes and quaint houses, but very well done. I remember WeeGranny's donkey one year as well. I'm not in that class, much as I would like to be.

I think that is excellent Daisy, it would make a lovely Christmas card.

You are all so kind. I've since watched a tutorial on painting trees and hopefully could get a better result next time. It's all a learning curve. But I enjoyed doing this one more than I thought I would.

Aggie - yes, I did use acrylics. I'd never used them before I started painting during lockdown one. I'd love to go to classes when lockdown's over and learn some proper techniques. Are you still painting?

I'm glad you can all see the photos - it helps to know if anyone can't. xx

I started another snowscene straight after the first one, above, then lost my mojo. The weather got a bit better and painting snow seemed irrelevant. Anyway, I finally finished it yesterday. It's small, and on the same type of rough canvas as the previous one.

I'm disappointed with it - it wasn't what I set out to do, but it's all a learning curve I'm told! I'm going back to seascapes for the next one!

                            Disappointed??!!

I agree with Grauntie, it's great and could be a Christmas card design.

Gem - I'm disappointed because it wasn't what I "saw" in my head and I'm still struggling with tree branches.

I don't think I'm brave enough to make either of them into Christmas cards - unless they were very tiny ones that friends could hide at the back of the mantelpiece!!!
