    Knitting machine.

Has anyone got one? A neighbour has three knitting machines she no longer wants. One is a hand worked machine (manual) & the other two are electric. She said that she would like me to have one as she knows I like to knit.

I have never used one but think I should go for an electric one. She said she doesn't want any money for it but I obviously won't let that happen.

I would really appreciate any help with this. Is it easy to learn how to use them etc? Not got a clue.🤔🤤😁

Nana I have never used one, but it can’t hurt to try one and see if it’s something you would use.
I would imagine that you would need somewhere where it won’t be in your way. With knitting needles it’s easy to pop them away but a machine would take up more storage.

Give it a go and let let us know how you get on.
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

I've no idea, either (no surprise there!) but if you know the makes and model numbers you could Google them and see if that helps, although I'm sure one of our clever crafting ladies will be able to help as well.

I used to have two , they are probably. Still there , the family objected to the noise , then they wouldn't wear the school jumpers had to get bought one's to fit in at school . I loved using them , managed Fairisle and complicated patterns . You do need space for them

My neighbour used to have one and it was very noisy. I think that if you enjoy the actual process of knitting, sitting quietly with needles and wool then machine knitting is just not the same. Can you try one out first and see how you get in with it. Also, the tension of machine knitted items always seems much tighter than hand knitting, something to bear in mind.

Many years ago ( maybe 25 or more ) I had one , I didn't get on with it at all it was manual and very noisy , plus had to make room for it ,
They are most likely less complicated and less noisy now I imagine , You could always borrow it for a while see how you get on then if you don't like it give it back for her to pass on to someone else or donate it yourself .

I've just Googled knitting machines out of curiosity and saw one that was £650 - then when I read about it I realised it was merely an attachment, and the machines I saw were over £1,000. I don't know why I'm surprised at this, but I am!

The fold away knitting machine table at only £50 seemed a bargain in comparison.

I have never owned one but used to sew up garments for a lady who had one.

Thanks for your input my friends. Reading through your posts has given me a lot to think about. You know how it is to be 'carried along on the crest of a wave'. I hadn't thought about storage space.

I think what I'll do when I feel a little better is to go around to my neighbour's and ask her for a demo. Watch this space😉

That sounds the best thing, Nana.

A knitting machine might be a great way of finding new ways to be creative, but it might also feel like a lot of hassle you don’t need. I hope you feel better soon. Xx
