    GS and History

GS1 came home at tea time and we always have a chat what he has been doing at school what lessons etc ,
He had History today and its the one subject he really dislikes and isn't excelling in ,
He has A in everything apart from this ,
So we chatted about it and he said he is trying very hard but he just cant get interested in it and no way is he taking it as a option next year ,
He is quite disappointed in himself , We told him as long as he's trying that's good enough for us , he cant be good at everything .

The teacher asked him what it was that was preventing him getting good marks but he cant say it just doesn't light his fire ( his words )
Such a shame as there is so much to learn , B said to him as he gets older he may become more interested and he will be surprised how much he has really learned when he thinks about it .
He loves Geography , Science is his thing at the minute , English , Maths etc
I suppose one subject out of all he does isn't bad , As he said he wont be taking it as a option next year but at some point I hope he takes a interest , if he doesn't its not the end of the world he will pick stuff up along the way .

As you say Oma, he can't be good at everything.

When i was at school, history was one of my favourite subjects.
I'm still interested in it now.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

No one can be good at, or interested in everything Oma.
Your GS is so bright and hard working that he will excel in life, be it sport, school ,college /uni, or the world of work.
Being disinterested in history will do him no harm!
As his granddad says, he may well become interested as he gets older.

Interest in History will come in time as B says but he excels in other subjects and that is very good

I remember having the most uninspiring teacher for history. I loathed it, but in later years that all changed, what with tv programmes, etc. so all is not lost Oma.

To be honest I don't think the teacher helps either ,
GS1 said he has a mono tone voice that could send you to sleep and is boring .
A bit of fun might go a long way , he's at a science event with the school today and was looking forward to that 😊

I wouldnt worry Oma I do think it’s a lot to do with their enthusiasm from the teacher , I remember my eldest dd saying she was learning about the 2world wars and was asking her grandad my dad who served in the 2nd world war, she said it was boring apart from when grandad got shot charming !!! she would have been about 8 at the time, now her Dd is learning about the Pharoes and was fascinated by them it’s as your grandson says it all depends on what floats their boat

I had to choose between History and Geography for my O levels and I went for Geography, mainly because I didn't like the History teacher! As I've got older, I've become more interested in things historical and I've just finished a biography about Katherine of Aragon. Was a bit heavy going at times but very interesting.

We can't all be interested in everything, Oma, and if History is the only subject your GS isn't enjoying/getting top grades in, I wouldn't worry. Perhaps next year he'll have a different teacher who might be more inspiring. the teaching of history (how it's taught, and what is taught) has been hotly debated by historians and teachers over the years so perhaps what his class is doing now isn't very interesting for him. Watching a few good films on historical events might catch his imagination, particularly if he just thinks they're a good story, rather than being based on real life.

At least if all else fails he can drop it for GCSE - we didn't have the chance, it was a compulsory subject at our school.

He has my sympathies Oma. I had a rubbish teacher for geography at his age. Didn't learn a thing. Was seated at the back of the class while he taught the kids at the front who were good at it. A lot has to do with the teacher I think. If they're excited about the subject they're teaching then it becomes infectious. Not the end of the world for a very talented little J.

Oma is hard to absorb any information on a subject you have no interest in so it’s easy to see why your GS isn’t achieving the grades that school’s insist on .
Your GS is doing well in other subjects so he should be very prof himself. I hated science and all I remember about the endless classes is what a Bunsen burner looks like and what photosynthesis is , not a lot for 4 years in secondary school.
