Back to school, changing school or starting school!

The autumn term is almost up on us.
The school holidays have passed far too quickly for me, especially as my granddaughter was away for almost 3 of the weeks and I was away the following week!

Granddaughter will start back in year 3 next week, and elder grandson will start school for the first time. Youngest grandson will be just 17 months, so nothing will change for him for a while

Good luck to all who are starting a new school or nursery and those going up a year. Let's hope they all have happy experiences!

Yes good luck to them all, very daunting sometimes. My DD goes back on Monday, the place will feel very quiet, it has been so active lately, GD2 coming and going.

We have eldest g/d also starting in year 3.Gem she is
always the youngest in the class as her birthday falls on the last week in July they get to have their own desk as opposed to a table with 4 children and she gets her own pencil case hope this makes her feel more grown up she seems such a little one yet
The twins start nursery education 2 full days a week, they have always gone to this private nursery once a week so are used to place but now it is 2 days, I will have 2 weeks of two days and 2 weeks of no children it will seem strange on those days as you know we have been quite full on each week since they were one and had them one day a week from being new babies.

l wish all the children luck in this new educational year 👩🏼*🎓👨*🏫

GS1 said he's ready to go back he's getting a bit bored now although he's never in .
I think school holidays need revising 6 weeks in the summer is too much , maybe 4 and the extra two in the winter when its bad weather and Christmas is hear

Just spoken to DS whose looking after twins as we were on a late flight last night so that's why we are having kids Wednesday and Thursday, he has told me we are going to go down to one day for 2 wks a month they have got an extra day at nursery I think they have probably had some thoughts about the week before our hols and how ill OH was so it will feel even stranger now, I don't know the details and he didn't lol 😊

            Some changes for us, too.

GS1 starts in Year 10 on the trek towards GCSEs at the end of Year 11.

GS2 goes into Year 8. He will no longer be a Year 7 New Boy, so I think he will go back with more confidence.

The big change is for GD1. Like Qwerty's and Zizi's GD she is one of the youngest - she was 7 last Friday. Incredibly there are twin boys in her class who are younger by a couple of days! She will be changing schools - from the Infants to the Juniors to go into Year 3. It's only across the playground, but the ethos is much more grown up - shirts and ties instead of t-shirts and her classroom will be upstairs. She's overjoyed about that! Fancy being old enough to go up and down stairs in school!!! She already knows that several of her best friends will be in the same class, but it will be interesting to see how she responds to a bigger school and amore grown up routine.

GD2 is still at playgroup for another year. She goes 3 mornings a week and last term stayed for lunch on Wednesdays. This year she will also stay for lunch on Mondays, so I will be picking her up at 2 pm instead of 12.

Qwerty - I know you love your little ones to bits but you must be slightly relieved to have a bit more free time.

I have to admit the holidays have been quite hard going for me - it's been pretty full on right through the 6 weeks. I'm more than ready for a break - we're hoping to get away in the caravan next week!

              Goodness,aren't they all growing up.
GD is going to be in Year 11.It'll be head down ( I hope )for GCEs next year.GS ,like Oma's GS1 will be in year 8.We were so apprehensive this time last year to see how he would get on. Although he doesn't have or seem to want any friends he seems to be coping fairly well.He is immature in some respects but had a great report at the end of last year.
Best of luck to all our youngsters in their new school year.

I will not have any GC at school now, 2 at University and 1 in College. Expensive time for their parents. Good luck to all those GC changing classes and schools.

Clover - I hope your GD has a good year !1. I know she's not that keen on school, but hopefully they can keep her motivated to get what she needs for the next stage. Does she know what she wants to do?

Plant - I'm sure College and Uni will still present their challenges for your GCs, but there is that feeling that they've set off on a path they've chosen as opposed to it being inflicted on them by the 'system'.

Yes true Daisy. Just had a message from GS4 who is going to college that he needs steel cap boots so that is what I shall buy him, his choice of course.

Plant - I didn't realise College was that dangerous!!! Only joking, but I do think he's a lucky boy to have such a kind Gran.

Daisy GD is taking a mix of subjects but I think prefers the Arts side of things. She enjoyed her work experience in a Pre school but I don't think she's that keen to go down the child care/ education route.

Clover - when I was involved in arranging work experience for students, I always used to tell them that if they found out they didn't enjoy a particular kind of placement that was just as useful as one they liked, because it might just save them many years of studying the wrong thing for them. I've also seen a lot of very disaffected school leavers blossom at college where they like the more adult environment and can chose their subjects without 'having' to do ones they have no interest in. I think one of the main things about GCSE is getting the grades to keep your options open Post 16.

Best of luck to your GD - I hope she does well.

Thanks Daisy. She's a "typical" teenager but she does work hard. She always gets down to her prep as soon as she gets home and always has done but GS will do it quite willingly but needs reminding.
