This is going well for my grandson, he's very fond of Jessica.

It does have it's drawbacks however

DD was talking to one of the other mums in the playground, and she told DD that her little girls Buddy, a Year 6 boy, had been doing things like tying her laces together and laughing at her This is appalling, these little ones are 4 and just 5. The little girl has a new buddy, but her mum said she felt bad as the boy had been allocated to another child.
I disagree strongly with older children who are not kind and sensible being given any power over smaller ones. just because a child in in Year 6 doesn't make them a suitable Buddy, as this case proves.

He certainly should't be allocation to be a buddy to any little child.

Gem, I agree. That child in Year 6 was bullying the little girl in Reception, and that shouldn't be tolerated, and certainly he shouldn't have been allocated another little one. I hope the 'new' youngster is robust and stands up to him.

I'm glad the system is working well for your GS.

GS's Buddy, Jessica has moved and left the school!
GS, and DD are sorry about it, and I feel sorry for her. Moving school part way through year 6, only to change schools again in a few months time, seems hard.

GS seems fine about his new buddy Fay, so let's hope it works out ok.

Gem - what a shame - that was working so well for both your GS and Jessica. I'm glad his new buddy Fay seems nice, too.

Poor Jessica - moving schools at any age is tough. We moved around a lot when our children were young (job related) and my DS1 went to 2 schools before he was 5!! When he was about 6 we moved to Surrey where there was the middle school system, so he went into the First School - at the bottom of our garden, and a lovely school. We managed to stay there for 4 years and he was in the top class of the Middle School, in the woods behind us, when OH got moved again. DS1 was just 11 when we moved to the New Forest so went from the top class of a lovely Middle School to Year 1 (as it was then) of a large comp nearly 15 miles away. In the same move DS2 had half a term in the Middle School then had to move to the village Primary school - which he thought was as a backward step.

It was then that we decided no matter what OH's employers said we weren't disrupting the children's schooling any more.
