My GS2's school has had this Friday fundraiser for some years. I think they hold them once a term. They are very popular with the children- and a minimum effort money raiser

Gem, in an era where children's lives are so controlled, I think this is great! Even the very well-behaved children must take delight is defying the system on this day. My only slight reservation is for those children/families who simply don't have any money to spare, but that is true of any school fundraiser.

What a great idea Gem. It sounds like fun.

Oma, yes, 7 is Wear a temporary tattoo.

Daisy, I see your point but it's only 50p per item and it's a fairly financially comfortable community.

They have Freezy Friday sometimes during the summer. Ice lollies for sale in the playground after school for 1£. I always think that may be too much for families with 2 or 3 children at the school, and I have heard parents promising One from the freezer at home

I take your point, Gem. Any child can have the fun without spending too much. It sounds as though it's a lovely school with the children totally at the centre of what they do.

My GD2's primary school is the same. The head and deputy head are amazing. Both of them are always in the playground at each end of the day, so parents can always grab a few minutes with them. And they both teach, taking fast learners for English and Maths, or helping those who are struggling. When England got through to the final of the world cup, the head had Sweet Caroline playing and all the children were running in and joining in. He takes his dog in for reading with some of the children, and greets them with his guitar and a song at the start of term. When GD1 was there, he was so impressed with her Rubik cube skills he got her to teach him!
