    Back to School

A new school year is almost upon us.

Although my GD goes to a state school they have different school holidays to other local schools. She went back into Year 10 last week, and has a two week October break.

Tomorrow GS2 goes into Year 4 , and GS1 starts his secondary school career.

This must sound awful, but I can't remember when my GDs go back to school. I know it's not the same day and I was going to ring their Dad later to see what was happening.

GD1, like Gems GD will be going into Year 10, and GD2 into Year 6, her final year at primary school.

Gem, I think the two week holiday in October is a good idea. I remember how exhausting that Autumn term was even for the 16 year olds I taught, and the extra week gives them time to get over the inevitable coughs, colds and other bugs, and to catch up on sleep after the shock for most of them of having to travel considerable distances to get to college.

Oma, is GD going to the same school as GS2? I hope it goes well for both of them - a big step forward.

GS1 has had a very long holiday, hasn't he.

GS goes into his final year at secondary school. He's hoping to go to uni when he finishes. Doesn't seem any time since he was starting in Reception!

My DN who teaches in Scotland has a fortnight off in October. When I started, many many moons ago, we had two days off in the Autumn term......it was a VERY long term from August to December! I think GS's school also has a fortnight off but the primary ones in this area don't. Bit of a pain for parents!

GD is going to the same school GS1 went to , his 6th form is in Durham.

Yes it’s been a long holiday for GS1 from middle of June till October. He did have to go in for a couple of exams but apart from that all free time.
We suspect this term will be harder and longer 😁

Hope all goes well for those starting new schools.
We haven't got any school aged grandchildren at the moment.

GS1's first day went well. He enjoyed it , and was pleased to be learning Spanish rather than French as he had been doing. Duolingo Spanish course!

Yesterday was just the new starters. This morning he was panicking about going in with a full school
I am crossing my fingers 🤞

Gem, I'm pleased (and relieved) your GS1 enjoyed his first day. It's such a good idea to have the newbies starting a day earlier to give themselves chance to find their way round and start getting to know new friends.

Fingers crossed it goes well today. xx

Both my GDs are now back at school. I think GD2 will enjoy being one of the 'big children' in the school - Year 6. GD1 was delighted to find that she's been put into the top set for Maths. She enjoys the subject but was finding it a bit boring in a lower group, and being in the top group will give her an incentive to do well. She's also with various friends for most subjects - they are all split up because of the different options they've chosen for GCSEs.

Oma, don't they grow up too quickly. I bet it doesn't seem 5 minutes since that first day at primary school. How is 6th form going for him?
