It's great when things work out!

It suddenly occurred to me today that I didn't know what SIL3's mum, who already had a grandson, was known as. It's Gran, which is great as I am Grandma.

GD was the first grandchild for SIL2's mum and for me. She wanted to be Gran and I Grandma so that was convenient.

SIL1's mum already had two GC when my GS1 was born. Luckily she is Granny.

SILs 2 and 3's fathers were Grandad, which once again was highly convenient as my ex wanted to be Grandpa.
SIL1's dad is Grandpa, but as he hardly features in my GS's life at all he is Grandpa J.

Gem - what well-organised families your grandchildren have!

Despite having 3 sets of grandparents, our GSs had different mostly jokey names for all of us. They were the first grandchildren for us all, so at least we didn't clash with anyone else. GS1, nearly 19, mostly calls us by our first names anyway.

It was different with the GDs, though. Their other GPs already had grandchildren as well. So there were two Grandmas, one Grandpa and one jokey name (my OH). I saw the GDs virtually every day so they were used to me being Grandma, but the other Grandma became Grandma Skype because they rarely saw her in person. Although she now lives very close to them, she's still Grandma Skype!

GS1 calls us Nana & Grandad , his other grandparents are Gran & Grandad Jim

GS2 & GD call us Nanabanna and Grandad , other grandparents Nanna & Grandad S (their last name )
They all call Bs Mam their Great Nana , Nana Ulla (German name )
GS1 calls his Great gran on his Dads side Nan

There is only our 3 on all sides no other grandchildren or grandparents involved so straight forward .

It can get quite complicated when there are multiple generations, can't it. My OH's grandparents were always Taid and Granny, and our sons called them the same, but OH's mother was also Granny! And my grandmother was Granny. In practice it worked fine, but sometimes conversations got a bit confusing!!

My mum was thrilled when none of us wanted to be Nanna. This means that she is Nanna to her GGC as well as her GDs.

Clover, woe betide anyone giving my mother a card to Nana. She was always disgusted, claiming that was Nana to rhyme with banana

Clover - I wonder why you are known as "Mad Nana". I'm sure it's a very affectionate name - like my OH being called Grumpdad, instead of Grandad!

Gem - I imagine finding cards with the appropriate spelling can be difficult! My mother was Nan to our children, and most cards were "Nanna".

Daisy I think I’m “mad” because of all the silly and crazy things I did as opposed to other GM who is a bit more serious. I used to crawl around into dens ,play on the floor a lot etc,etc lots of physical things !

Clover - I'm sure your delighted your GCs by being such a fun Gran. It's the sort of thing they always remember. x
