I'm moaning about unisex baby clothes again!

I'm sure I have complained about this before.
I am finding it hard to find pretty, colourful baby clothes which are not specifically for a boy or girl.

There is so much white, beige and grey stuff for new babies. If the expected grandchild is a girl I can't bear to think of her in these dull colours, and take no pleasure in buying them! I have managed to find a couple of nice little suits from John Lewis, which are basically white with multi colour animals on. I have bought a couple of white outfits too.

What I am looking for doesn't seem to exist. A baby sleepsuit in mixed pastel colours - blue, pink, lemon aqua etc. Or one with an equal amount of pink and blue.
There best things I can find are in the baby girls sections, ones without too much pink. But I still haven't found what I want.

When I was expecting DD3 (and none of us knew what we were having back then) along with all the white and lemon I bought 2 lovely babygrows in white with ribbed stripes of all these pretty colours. They were lovely and would have been fine if she had been a boy.
I can't seem to find anything like that now.

I am making a gift basket of clothes, toys, nappies, wipes etc for the new baby as I did for the others. As I don't know what sex this baby is I haven't bought nearly as much as I did for the first three.

I know I can make up for it once the baby is here, but I want to have a few nice outfits in the box to give them before the baby arrives as I did with the others.
There must be a market for pretty non boring unisex baby clothes! Or perhaps not as I suppose the majority know what sex is expected nowadays.

Gem, I don't know about in the UK, but, babies all seem to wear dark colours here. No baby shades anymore.

I love to see pastel coloured baby clothes, but they don't seem to be the norm now.
Years ago, when of our nephews was about 3 months old,he was dressed in a t-shirt and denim trousers.
I commented and said i love to see baby boys dressed in romper suits.I was told i'm old fashioned.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Gem - I remember taking DS1 to his Granny's one day. He was about 5 months and I'd dressed him in his latest babygro - long sleeves, no legs, which I loved - bright yellow with a yellow and white striped top. Granny was bemused! She'd never seen such a thing! I think she liked it, but I was never quite sure she liked me dressing our baby boys in bright colours.

Everything is so boring now and Grey seems to dominate a lot of baby clothes .

I remember GS1 & 2 had tiger striped baby grows and rainbow stripes , very bright and suitable for both sexes .

              Oma - that's sweet.

The trend for grey seems strange to me. babies respond to contrast first of all, and then bright colours. Grey on grey doesn't give them much stimulation, besides looking so sombre.

                Oma that is lovely!

I hate all the 'trendy' grey for babies.
When OH's niece's little boy, now 3 ,arrived I noticed they even had baby ball pool full of balls in shades of grey!!!

Gem - that is definitely one "trendy" step too far!

It's not looking at the world from the baby's point of view at all.

Oma, thank you for that! I hadn't looked at Matalan.
I have now ordered 3 sleepsuits, a pack of vests, some bandana bibs and muslin cloths and a hooded towel. Such good prices!!
DD3 who prides herself on buying as much new condition preloved clothing for herself as possible will approve of not too much being spent on clothes which will last a short while

It’s to match the house not to stimulate the child these days 🙄😁

Oma - that's such a shame. They can never go back and capture their baby or toddler's delight in opening and playing with a brightly coloured toy, or even enjoy a brightly coloured outfit.

Daisy I can’t understand why a child’s bedroom and toys have to match the decor , 🙄
