My DD is chair of the Friends of R------ School, which is basically PTA in old money!
Due to the pandemic she seems to have had this role forever. She is a perfectionist who puts her all into everything she does. She works extremely hard in the business she and SIL have, and really doesn't have time for extras like this. And yet she does it.
The group decided that the kids deserved a treat after over a year of on and off home schooling, Bubbles, restrictions and lack of normal events.
They held a Back To School Party for the children plus the Year 7 and 8's who also had their schooling restricted and missed out on leaving celebrations.
The school has big summer fayre each year which is well attended. It was decided to hold a smaller version, only for the children and the parents (plus any volunteer grandmas like me of course )
Five bouncy castles including a disco dome, assault course one and a human table tennis table one!! Older kids only on that one of course.
Face painting , a Bake Off competition, cake stall, sweetie stall, raffle, tombola. Story corner, manned by a rota of teachers. Soak The Teacher. Guess the name of the bunny.
None of the food outlets they usually have. Bring your own food and picnic chairs. Local group playing and singing.
A good time was had by all. It was very sunny at 4.30, then clouded over, and was dark by finishing time. I had to light up my Guess the Name sheet with my phone torch for people to see it!
I was given a Peter Rabbit and a sheet with 100 names on in squares and the winning name was a scratch off box, so none of us knew the name.
All the children though his name was Peter! I explained that this was in fact one of Peter's cousins, could be a boy or a girl (as names for both sexes were on the board) and that Peter had lent them his blue coat to wear to trick people
It was a gorgeous big plush rabbit donated by Tesco, but not quite the thing for a Guess The Name as it confused them!
I had a hour off my stall in the middle to go around with GS and SIL.
I enjoyed my time very much, despite having to drive home in the dark. It was almost 9 when I got in and I was ready for my tea!
This wasn't a fund raising event, but a treat for the children. It is hoped that costs will be covered, and perhaps a little profit.
I will let you know
