    Back to school - already

Does anyone else feel the summer holidays have gone very quickly this year?

My GD2 goes back to school tomorrow, and I bet there are others who have already started. GD1 goes back next Tuesday, but only half a day.

I thought the holidays might have seemed long because they had been home so much during the lockdowns, but quite the opposite. They've flown by and there were lovely things we were hoping to do with them, but with one thing and another it hasn't been possible.

Daisy, I do really feel that they have! Whether this is because compared to last summer and the beginning of this year we all have so much more going on I'm not sure.

GD starts her new school on Monday, GS2 goes into Year 1 on Tuesday. I'm not sure which day GS1 goes back.

Gem and Oma - it's not just me then!

GD2 was very excited this morning, but her mum says when she got to the school gates she went very quiet and shy. I'm sure she was fine as soon as she met up with her friends though.

I don't notice things like this, with not having any school age grandchildren.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Nanto - that's understandable. I suppose like most ex-teachers I've got term dates etc carved on the brain!

It seems our GD2 has already made her presence felt at her new junior school. They have a house system, and siblings are given the same house as older brothers or sisters. However, GD1 has already left the junior school and they had the temerity to put GD 2 into a different house. GD2 wasn't having that! She told the teacher she should be in her sister's house and would they please change it! I'm sure they must have had a bemused smile on their faces as they gave her a red badge instead of the other one!

Good for her starting the way she means to go on

My Great Nephew started Durham 6th form today , its a fair way away from Sunderland ,
He rang his Mother at Break time he has already made a few friends and thinks he will settle in fine .

GS1 starts on Wednesday but his is a walkable distance away still in Washington , he already knows lots who go there, he is looking forward to it

GD's first day went fine. She had to walk in alone this morning as the only friend who was starting with her (someone she went to primary school with until age 8) was isolating due to covid!

The day was fine she said. DD said she came home tired but happy.

Apparently, GD2 was not convinced a verbal request would carry much weight, and she actually wrote a note to the teacher, pointing out the anomaly and asking to be moved. Her mum didn't know if GD had kept a copy herself for evidence!!

Gem, what a pity she had to walk in on her own this morning, and it must have been disappointing for her friend who was isolating and missing the first day.

GD2 starts tomorrow lunch-time, just for 2 hours. Her mum and I were a bit surprised to see the parents' group messages today. One wanted to know what colour socks they needed. One was asking how do they/their DD get the pass/card to buy lunches. Another said her DD had mentioned this morning that her daughter said she might just possibly have the teeniest bit of homework to do! (The homework wasn't compulsory, to be fair, but GD1 was on her third draft of the essay on Jane Austen!) Someone seemed unsure where to get the uniform from - it will be interesting to see what her DD wears tomorrow! All this information was in a pack sent by post about 7 weeks ago.
